Annual UH Alumni Meetings

Do any of you go to these meetings of any of the constituent groups? If so, which do you go to? What entices you to go and participate?

(An email went out today reminding of a bunch of the upcoming meetings)

It’s always been my intentions to go to these and become more
involved; but seems like family things always come up. The NSM
group meeting is at 56 Degree. Never been there, but apparently has nice Downtown view.

I haven’t made it out to the annual meeting, but I show up to NSM alumni stuff sometimes.

(Don’t tell them I’m a CLASS grad)

Does Spirit of Houston count? Just how many constituent groups are there?

At least 42 groups, but this appears to be 3 years old. SoH band is mentioned
in CLASS alumni. Not sure how active it is.

This year, we hope to highlight the stories of some scholarship recipients, and the Alumni volunteers that helped make those awards possible. I encourage all of you to visit the UH Alumni Association website to learn about our 42 active Alumni Associations and get involved. With your help, our groups are determined to Rise and Soar.

I’ve been to a couple way back when, and it was just glorified fund raising, I haven’t been since.

Yes, things always come down to money. What were your
expectations ?

Aggies seem to be really into donating to promote their brand.

Our alumni foundation is under funded by most comparisons; but
that will lead into the nth iteration here of our low ROI students
and why students MUST live on campus (which I oppose). Forgive me .

Corollary to giving - the more you give, the more you will be asked to give.

VERY active. Our tailgates are well attended.

I’m obliged to point out that SOH includes the cheerleaders, Cougar Dolls, and mascots.

UH Architecture is pretty unique in that the program is studio centric. So students spend a lot of time with each other, the architecture building is great at fostering this as it’s all open concept on all 4 floors, so no barriers to meeting other students. Many all nighters are spent in the building, its open 24 hours, I’ve mentioned this before, the architecture building even has showers anticipating this type of learning.

So most alumni are very close and we gather informally most of the time, without a need for an organization, although there is one, more to promote the school and the profession, and of course the fundraising. But yea, I don’t attend those because I get my fill just meeting life long UH friends all the time.

What kind of learning is going on in the showers?
