Antoine Jean named "Big 12 Pitcher of the Year"

HUZZAH!!!

First relief pitcher to ever win the award.

Certainly deserves it. The Big 12 stats are mind blowing:

3-0 Record
44 IP
1.02 ERA
72 Ks
8 BBs

He’ll be a lefty specialist in somebody’s bullpen one day.

I wish that they had several more like him.

First reliever in Big 12 history to win Pitcher of the Year. Surprised Huston Street never won the award.

Houston Street only came in for one inning stints. He was nothing like Jean at all.

Whitting said Jean was the first reliever to win the award, not me. And I wasn’t comparing the two, just saying that Street was more than worthy of winning the award, especially when you compare his stats to Jean. Street had two seasons better than the one Jean just had, maybe three. Jean threw 64 innings this year. Street threw 74 innings his sophomore year and 57 his junior year. He also went 8-1 with 15 saves and 6-1 with 12 saves, plus a lower ERA and WHIP each year.

It’s not Whitting that said that.

The Big 12 conference itself said that.

Read their press release:

*Quote: He is the first Cougar to win a yearly Big 12 award and he first reliever to be selected as Big 12 Pitcher of the Year.

Street wasnt even the top pitcher at his school. Relax. Simmons and Howell won the award in 02 and 04 over Street.

Street was great but he also had a greater supporting cast

IMO, Wagner had the nastier stuff by far……that slider was ridiculous….

Sucks that he was damaged goods in pro ball.

Another gem was from Jesse Crain in '02

35 IP
44 k
0.800 whip
0.00 era (didn’t allow an earned run the entire season (one unearned run)
0 HR

For sure.

And had a nice career and got better as he got older….last year in MLB was an All-Star with an ERA of 0.74!

Made a bit over 22M during his time.

It’s too bad his shoulder got him and he never was able to pitch for the Astros.

He was also a really good hitter. Geez I miss the days San Jac was loaded in hoops and baseball talent

Saw a video of Whitting telling Jean about the award where he mentions it. That was before I read any articles.

I just said I was surprised he didn’t win the award because I remember how dominant he was. Never said he should’ve been the winner. Simmons and Howell were the obvious choices when you look at the seasons they had.

Street was an animal. The fact that Jean’s season is compared to him and Wagner, Crain, etc. shows how dominant he was. And Wagner/Crain were not facing B12 batters.

I remember when the KSU commentators wanted to talk to Jean and not Todd Whitting.

Well they pitched in regionals and supers against top competition……also in some top non-con games….not trying to bag on Jean but he hasn’t done that so let’s not act like he faced tougher competition.
