Any available bigs like from the G-League that still has eligibility that UH can sign? Like how Bama did. Serious drop off when Tugler is off the court. Cenac and Sacko are too inconsistent. Just my 2 cents
Sahko is just not versatile enough to handle an athlete like Toppin. And Snacks isn’t mature enough. But thankfully there aren’t a lot of Toppin’s out there. I expect us to do a thunderclap on TT when we play them in the tourney. When Sampson loses to a team on the road he uses it to crack a log over their head the next time. That was the best you’ll ever see from Tech. Expect a different result next time. This is a match I really want.
Sahko has been very underwhelming.
Up until yesterday, Sahko has strung together some good games. He’s rebounded, blocked shots, and played defense. He’s doing exactly what Sampson brought him here to do. Did he have a bad game yesterday? Yes. Is it a trend? One isn’t a trend.
Great posts from you and Funk. These games are what CKC excel with. Any good Coach love these games because a great HC will work this defeat to one of the best teaching lesson he can give.
Cenac realized in these two games against Toppin how much he has to improve. With every player it is always their choice to want to improve and surpass themselves. Do you all remember when Hakeem was teaching all of the bigs at its home gym? I am not sure if he still does it. These bigs went to Hakeem’s house to learn invaluable lessons from a HOF. Hakeem learned so much from Moses Malone. Without Moses I seriously doubt that Hakeem would have been able to realize what was needed to become a great player.
The nba has countless talented big men…on paper but how many become dominant?
CKS is going to "hammer’ this very message to all of our bigs. We are going to be better for it. A day letter I am convinced that this loss is going to be a turning point for us.
Was coming on well before injury and had some nice moments after returning. He was not good yesterday and probably had some to do with the matchups and Toppin being in the middle. As CKS has noted he missed a lot of time over the summer and fall. He will continue to improve this season.
You know, J’Wan didn’t exactly “handle” Toppin last year, either. We just played much better team defense against a team that was missing two starters when we beat them in Lubbock last year.
Sahko has the physical tools to be a very good defender. He’s quicker and taller than Francis was, but he still doesn’t really KNOW the defense, and I don’t think he knows how to play with the required intensity with any consistency.
I’d rather we play some zone when he’s in the game, but doing that doesn’t get him the game experience he needs to be a contributor in March, so it’s just one of those thing we live with. The idea that we could add some rando to a Sampson team who could just step right in and be awesome is, ummm… ![]()
I believe JoJo and Cenac should both come back next year. IMO they are not ready for the NBA and would both improve another year under Coach Kellen.
If that were to happen, with Diane coming who comes off the bench?
Cenac ain’t coming back. Those type of players (HS draft hype, tools & top 10 player) already had their decision made before playing a game in campus. Only an injury or awful play would of stop from declaring. Tugler may come back because he was injured in the offseason and couldn’t work on his game according to Sampson.
As far as Diane @Joprior23 say he may not start! Which won’t be such a bad idea as he would punish backups on other teams. His foot work on defense would have to be somewhat raw for that to happen imo.
Amen.
I don’t see him coming in to come off the bench but I don’t question @Joprior23 either…
Our only bad matchup is Michigan. They can throw 3 Toppin like players at UH. Avoid them in the tournament! Or force their guards to shoot abysmal from the floor.
100% they should come back. But will they? It’s doubtful. Jo Jo is a beast on defense, has improved his free throw shooting but is not great on offense. Cenac has the tools but is a finesse player under the basket, not a banger. He could use another year with Coach Bishop.
