The BIG 10 has zero presence in Texas. With all the transplants in Texas now might be a good time to look at the possibilities. Btw, Ann Arbor is closer to HOUSTON than Orlando… Juz sayin…
What would the remaining excluded teams do? Is that not anti trust violation? Do they just act as independents or we gonna have a group of 2-3?
Ever been to Ann Arbor? I have. Forget miles. Looks nothing culturally like Houston.
What would I be concerned about? Getting excluded from a championship that we were never gonna win anyway?
That is a great question Danny and the question that more than likely the feds will base their argument on. I am 100% with you Danny. I despise, hate this p2 format.
College football to me is a game based on local/driving distance rivalry. That is what made college football.
SWC
PAC12
BIG East were what college football is all about. Keep in mind that 90% of these schools are public and receive money from you and I or D.C. To give the middle finger to us should be banned even before it happens.
espn, fox, cbs and nbc have by all accounts create an nfl minor league without the nfl spending a penny.
I feel for every G5 and I sure do not want to be a G5 again but a p2 equates to it.
2027 big 12 schedule format is up for renewal. 2028 Big 12 media deal is up.
Big moves gonna happen then
Yes and this is why it is even more concerning because all of these media contracts and the CFP contract are up.
And if they can’t get UT or aTm, they likely still won’t.
Only brands that big would be additive to them.
They don’t need a small brand simply for sake of having a “presence” anywhere. Markets likewise aren’t what they used to be in realignment. It’s about brand size now.
Hang in there Chicken Little.
I live in AA. UM facilities are nice, but it’s a pretty mediocre college town. Detroit is a way better place to live, let alone Houston.
If and when that happens I will have already bought the farm and cremated, so I am not going to worry about something over which I have no control.
Wish we had that level of mediocrity with fan support.
Back in 1996 I heard CUSA was the death of UH atheletics.
Do we seem closer now than then?
As for worrying.
No.
The P2 will always make more media money than everyone else. A small number of programs will always have more NIL money than the rest. It’s unfair, but probably nothing can change that.
But I’m not worried about the P2 completely separating. They don’t have NFL type broad based appeal. That model won’t work. And in the end, it won’t provide enough content for all the content providers.
As for UH ever becoming P2, won’t be easy unless our brand gets A LOT bigger. Even AAU won’t help us much as long as our brand size is as small as it is. And without a much larger fan base and better attendance, growing our brand size to the point where we would be P2 attractive won’t happen quickly, if at all.
That does NOT mean we will be left completely behind.
We’ll still be considered a power in a power conference.
I’m more worried about what is happening to college sports as a whole with even non-scholarship players being regarded as employees and unionizing, and out of control NIL creating an increasingly professionalized atmosphere.
For sure. USF got AAU last year. So what?
Here’s a great idea. Let’s keep referring to the B10 and SEC as P2 until it sticks with everyone. Then we can assure the B12 and ACC will be seen as lower tier conferences that don’t deserve more than one spot in the new playoff format. Lol.
Must buy into inferiority complex
Bizarre why anyone thinks it’s an inferiority complex. I know for sure we’re not a super program, but that’s okay. It’s just a thing. We’re all on this board because we care. I like hearing about things we can change and improve.
Our we reading the same board? This thread?
