What b.s. you’re dealing up here 92010Coogs. No one is proposing Communism, it doesn’t work. Actually, it doesn’t exist. A mix of socialism and capitalism is proving to work. The problem is that so few own so much. That’s not competitive capitalism, that’s oligarchies, which is exactly what our previous president wanted. Besides, when did politics become a legitimate topic on the Satellite board. I thought this place was non-political.

Charles, the truth hurts and you have to insult people because they do not agree with you. What kind of society is this? You do not agree therefore you will insult. Freedom means something Charles and yes it comes with different view points.

It was exaggerating to make a point. I’m sure it’s a lot less than 99% 
. I absolutely see private interests as more exclusive than public interests and if it’s one thing I hate it is exclusion.
There have been a few closed threads but people have been mostly civil, most people anyway. Separation of topic and poster seems to help.
There has been some wholesome discussion that’s been worthwhile, I think.

Our economic system (like subsidies and huge tax breaks to oil companies and other mega corporations) benefits rich people more than it benefits poor people all while some people complain that welfare is a sink hole.
That has merit, in my opinion.

The socialist in America should first go to eastern europe and really talk to the people there about life as a socialist country.
Socialism/Communism had their winners and losers as well. There was a ruling class and since socialism created an equality of misery for the proletariat, the socialist leaders had to have a secret police force that did all kinds of atrocities to keep the miserable people from speaking out.
Socialism and communism doesn’t work. It just doesn’t.
If you want to change the wealth inequity, stop deficit spending and change the tax code. The wealthy are using Washington as a big ATM and they control both parties. The political discourse in this country is nothing more than professional wrestling. It is a made up conflict to keep us entertained. If you don’t believe it, read into the CNN producer that just got canned. Look at how he courted Trump. It is all BS to make you look the other way while we rack up trillions in debt and the money goes to the wealthy elite.
No one advocates that but I’d listen to people from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Iceland and others. They seem to be doing well.
Socialism is different, way different than Social Democracy.
Many people favor redistributive programs. Medicare and Social Security are clearly popular. We’ve had a mixed system for a century now. On the flip side, money buys political access, which buys political power. Money always shouts loudest, which explains how marginal income tax rates have been slashed since the Eisenhower administration. A moral component exists for all the choices we collectively make as a society, while as individuals we have to make a living and get a shot at following our dreams. It’s a tightrope.

Oh i love this argument! Yes, lets compare highly homogenized countries with anywhere from 5,000-15,000,000 to a country with a population of 345,000,000 with a social system that supports millions of illegal immigrants.

I’ve heard no one say “let’s be like a Venezuela”. Raising taxes on billionaires just a couple of percentage points will not turn the United States into Venezuela. 
It’s not too difficult to see differences yet some people like to oversimplify things to fit a narrative.

Supports? Like family separation at the border? ICE and the Border Patrol might have a different point of view of the context of “supports”.
So, if an undocumented immigrant shows up at the emergency room we should let them die as to insure they get no social system support? I mean we want to deter them, right?
Have you seen construction sight crews, in particular road construction crews?
Some of those countries also have no minimum wage (every Scandinavian Country you mentioned), state religions or state supported religion (Lutheranism in some of those Scandinavian countries you mentioned), and monarchies and titles of peerage (several countries you mentioned).
So no, I would NOT listen to those people, however “well” they may be doing.
All of those countries embrace ideas and principles that are anathema to American thinking and our Constitution.
For that reason, I reject them.
I should hope that we all would.
In light of that, please present us with a different/better “model” to follow.

Communism does indeed exist there, and elsewhere. Just ask the CCP if it is Communist. They’ll answer in the affirmative, and isn’t “self-identity” the be all and end all? Good.
And not only does Communism exist…it’s EVERY BIT as Hellish as its worst detractors say. As I said elsewhere, my in-laws were shipped off the countryside under Mao’s “Cultural Revolution.”
