To be fair basically every team outside the top 5 has several really weird pollsters having them really low or unranked. Like Marquette has someone who has them unranked which is mad. This late in the season is wild to see such all over the place rankings
Well, we dropped as far as #15. We haven’t lost since. We’re up to #7 in the AP poll. You look at Net rankings and we’re near the top. All the experts still have us as a #4 seed, still behind Kansas.
Add to all of this, we’re still not 100% healthy. In two weeks, if we’re 10-0 in conference, we won’t be sneaking up on anyone anymore.
Under the radar ≠ Surprised/unexpected. What Fran is talking about is that most, if not all, of the college basketball media is focused on other top tier teams as potential title contenders and national championship favorites which is allowing us to not have that target on our back and the pressure that comes with such an expectation. We’re being allowed to cook and let our team continue to develop without being over analyzed/criticized game to game or for a performance like Saturday’s. It also gives us the ability to play the underdog bit and have a chip on our shoulders. All of this is a good thing. And Fraschilla meant it as a good thing.
I’m perfectly happy letting media drool over Duke and Cooper, Auburn and Broome, and the others for the time being. We’ll be center stage soon enough.
We are not currently getting much attention from the media given the way we started the year losing three of the first seven. It ended up being a blessing in disguise. Not sure the last time we started the season 4-3 but the important thing is we have won our last 10. The rest of the teams in the Big 12 know who we are and that is what matters.
We are 6-0 and the only undefeated left in conference play. Last year we won the conference in our first year. We are going to get everyone’s best shot. Like we witnessed at UCF. Like our chances with CKS at the helm.
So the Auburn game went down to the final minute (Auburn has been #1 for a few weeks) and the Bama game went to OT (they’ve been a top 5 team this season) and bozos in the media are saying “we’re flying under the radar” or saying we’re a 4 seed? Alright then.
This is clownish. If today was Selection Sunday then we’re a 4 seed based on our current resume and the resumes of others. Last time I checked, even though both those games came down to the wire they were still losses, making our best win as of now metrics mid-30s West Virginia. We still have plenty of opportunity to move up seed lines.
