Players sued to get NIL.
We went from not transferring to transferring.
We now have red shirts, fifth year eligibility.
Students can go for a master, phd or multiple degrees.
Nobody expected where we are now just a few years ago.
Not sure how long that “still being in school” will even be a requirement to play college FB or BB.
Could be indefinite. Some have multiple degrees. Could this qualify as descrimination?
make things more simple, eliminate all the med/red/gray shirts---- give them 6 years to play 5
Why limit the number of years a guy can play collegiate professional FB? Changes are coming.
And so, for example, what if the owner of the Dallas Cowboys decides to buy an ownership stake in the SMU Mustangs or the TCU Horned Frogs and funds their collegiate player salary & NIL program at an elite level in order to attract and develop players. Maybe then he could sign them as free agents outside the normal NFL draft.
I think no fault transfer did more harm than NIL ever could. The one year sit out rule stopped a lot of that
Yes this is why I brought this up. Endless possibilities.
Now think about nfl franchises…U of H can’t relocate to Omaha…
We are going towards players staying as long as they darn well please in college football. No classes will be required and there won’t be a limit to how long they can stay. Plenty of marginal NFL talents that could just stay in school or older NFL players that get cut that could still play a few years back in college to tap some extra NIL $. There is a potential market for it and with the NCAA being neutered it will happen at some point probably in the next 5 years if you ask me.
It’s all so tiresome
My thing is why do we need two transfer portal windows? One in December and one in Spring… should just be the one in Spring. I dont see any benefit of having two windows, especially during post season.
At what point does this all just become another version of the XFL or other minor league football? There’s a reason none of these leagues are popular. It’s just a less talented version of the NFL.
Now with JUCO players retaining full eligibility we are trending that way.
Could a pro player/ex pro player wanting to do an MBA or just get another degree be eligible to play D1 football? You could imagine some attempting to do so and make good money through NIL.
