A's are moving to Vegas

That was during the turn of the last century. Back then Boston had two teams, Philadelphia had two teams, St.Louis had two teams. New York had three teams.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the White Sox leave Chicago in the next 30-40 years,

Chicago isn’t growing.

San Antonio/Austin will have a MLB team.

Have to admit I’m excited about the A’s heading to Vegas. I’m in Vegas several times per year and I’d much rather sit at an MLB game than in a smoky casino.

Back then the AL was actually a rival to the NL.

Speaking of teams that need to move…

The Tampa Bay Rays are the best and most exciting team in baseball @ 20-3, are playing a series vs the World Series Champions and they only draw 10,000 for game 1!?!?

Florida just isn’t passionate about baseball. A new stadium wont fix this ( re: Miami)

They should look to move to Charlotte, Nashville or Montreal where they would be cheerished.

And there was a strong Astros fan turnout yesterday.

Wish I had the $ and opportunity to travel around with the Astros.

The Rays are an anomaly. They perform better with no fans than most teams do with a lot of fans. And its not just this year. They don’t care.

You have to be a truly awful sports town to have that record and not sell out.

Only 9,000 today to watch a team with a 14 game home winning streak.

This is not a flash in the pan, the Rays have been very good for a while and nobody in TB/SP cares

Florida has probably the best prep baseball in the nation. Great college baseball programs. Horrendous support of the MLB teams there. Get the Marlins/Rays to Nashville and … IDK where else but somewhere else.

10,000! More like 4000!

Montreol is well overdue to have a baseball team back in their city. The Expos had a unique History and whenever the Nationals have gone back to Montreol in previous years for some late Spring Training games they sold out the Montreol Expos old stomping grounds. Montreol needs a team again!

Are you distinguishing “prep” from “high school”. I wojld concdde to you on “prep” if distinguished from “high school”. As to the latter, you might want to check major and minor league rosters for a look at what state leads the pack.

I loved the Expos in Montreal. Andrew Dawson, Gary Carter … later on Vladimir Guerrero. But they were getting no fan support much like Tampa, which is why the team left, I think. Empty stadiums like Oakland. No? Am I remembering incorrectly?

Prep, not HS. But Florida is right there with HS talent too along with TX and CA.

The Montreal Expos always had among the lowest attendance in MLB.

See here.

They averaged fewer than 20K per game in most seasons, sometimes under 10K per game.

Here were their last five seasons:

2000 Stade Olympique 11,435 926,272 2,480,194
2001 Stade Olympique 7,935 642,743 2,481,346
2002 Stade Olympique 10,031 812,537 2,309,294
2003 Stade Olympique / Hiram Bithorn Stadium 12,662 1,025,639 2,273,813
2004 Stade Olympique / Hiram Bithorn Stadium 9,356 748,55 2,512,690

It’s hardly a shock that they relocated at that point. They were averaging barely 10K per game during those last years

Attendance has been much better in Washington D.C.

Even in 2022, with a 55-107 record, the Nats still averaged over 25K per game.

Some cities simply AREN’T MLB towns.

Montreal appears to be one of them, though it’s possible the city would respond more positively this time.

But based on their past history, Nashville or Charlotte would probably be better relocation destinations for the Rays.

That’s what I remembered. In no way does Montreal deserve an MLB team. Let’s give Nashville a shot.

Austin-San Antonio. To me that is a no brainer.

A’s have been talking about moving to Vegas for a long time. Glad to see California lose another team. The Rays are next. MLB really wants a team in Mexico City. Rays owner has talked about Montreal in the past. I don’t see it happening.

I wonder if Crane would try to block that from happening.

The Astros and Rangers would both strongly oppose that, I think.

There won’t be a team in Mexico City, at least not anytime soon.

I would guess Nashville,Charlotte, Indianapolis or Portland maybe….some one mentioned Montreal but I don’t think MLB would be anxious to go back.

No way San Antonio or Austin gets one….Crane would not let that happen……heavy Astros country.

I realize Florida has crappy stadiums but their prep baseball and minor league baseball are so popular it’s crazy they have such little interest in either team.
