i have xfinity, i should look into this.
xfinity has a stranglehold on so many thru their cable, which is a piss poor service. there is great room for competition but xfinity has a big moat. i have looked for alternatives, it is hard to find something that offers what they do,
Does that include out of network nfl games?
You can pay extra for NFL Sunday ticket if you wish. I donāt.
If you are in the Houston area, you get all the local network stations. So I just watched the Texans on Sunday the way that I always do. I saved an additional $25 per month because I used to need ESPN+ to catch the UH football, basketball, and baseball games broadcasted there.
No longer needed with youtube tv. With youtube TV, you get ESPN āUnlimitedā which includes all ESPN networks PLUS all the games broadcasted on ESPN+ at no extra charge.
Way better deal.
Iām not in TXā¦
And Iām not paying the exorbitant price for NFL Ticket to watch what the Texans are currently running out on the field.
If they win a few Iāll buy it later in the season on discount.
EZEE Fiber not in my area yet, but I will keep an eye out for. Iām a Xfinity customer who knows he is overpaying but hasnāt like the alternatives. I want to pull the plug on Xfinity.
I had Xfinity for the last 10ish years and cable my WHOLE life (just turned 40). Just ditched Xfinity tv service 2 months ago.
Honestly its not even close from a product perspective. I still have Xfinity internet because where I live they just introduced a 5 year price lock at $70/month for 1GB speed and wifi router included and you can cancel anytime without a fee which I think is a solid deal and the fiber is already in use so I wonāt have to get another one run (I have power lines, drains, tree roots, and a bunch of concrete etc in the way so Iād rather not deal with it).
Donāt pay for Disney+ anymore either who had some stupid programming issue with Xfinity where the app wouldnāt work half the time in the Xfinity interface and still wasnāt fixed after more than 6 months with both sides pointing at the other. Well guess what, ya both got chopped. Never watched their new āoriginalā Disney+ programming anyway. 99% of their value is in their theatrical released movies. Now I hack 80% of the Disney movies my kids want to watch anyway by recording them off the 3 Disney Channels on YoutubeTV where they sit in the ālibraryā ready to play at a moments notice.
I go with a Roku with apps for Netflix, YoutubeTV, and Amazon Prime and one or two of those free movie and kid apps already on the Roku like Tubi. Just north of $150/month all in with this setup (Prime not included because we all buy Prime for the next day deliveries anyway). Was north of $250/month before. Iām saving about $100/month for a much better product. Simple and couldnāt be happier right now.
My suggestion is stop looking for cable to solve the problem and look to streaming. I think youāre limiting your substitution options. Open that up and it gets much easier.
Everything you said is correct, but I look at it THIS way.
a) Iām getting faster internet at a lower price than with Xfinity. In the past, streaming would not have been very reliable, but with this new internet, it appears to be fast, clear, and uninterrupted.
b) I lose two channels: a) Space City Home Network and b) the History Channel. I never watch the Rockets, and donāt have to see every Astros game, so I can live without āa.ā That said, I watched yesterdayās Astros game even without SCHN. As for āb,ā for many years, that was my favorite cable channel, you know, back when they primarily showed HISTORY programming. Today, itās mostly Alien, UFO, and Conspiracy Theory shows. Havenāt watched in a long time for that reason. Wonāt miss it.
c) Those few channels I lost are more than made up for by the fact that a) I now get Paramount content (though to be fair, not Paramount+) as a part of the standard package; I didnāt get it at all with Xfinity, b) I get two news channels that I didnāt get on Xfinity, AND c) I no longer have to pay an additional $25 per month for ESPN+; all that content comes standard with their ESPN Unlimited.
d) The price for Xfinity cable, whose content and channels arenāt really any better, FAR EXCEEDS that of youtube tv.
And, as you say, I now have unlimited cloud recording and the ability to watch on my phone, tablet, any tv, etc. without an additional cable box or additional charges, and lifetime pricing for EZEE Fiber internet.
NO BRAINER!!!
Find any internet provider in your area other than Xfinity. Itāll probably be faster and cheaper.
Once youāve switched that and have fast enough interent, cut off your Xfinity cable and go with Youtube TV streaming service. Same channels, less money, and you can watch it on any TV, computer, tablet, or other device without additional charges or an additional subscription simply by downloading the app and signing in.
Better deal altogether.
Yes I forgot to add that perk, you are right YoutubeTV just added ALL the ESPN+ stuff onto the package as long as you have one of the plans with ESPN. Poof like that, we can watch all the UH basketball games on ESPN+, etc⦠at no extra cost out of nowhere as an added perk to your YoutubeTV subscription.
And yes you are 100% right on the History channel being a bunch of junk. I will miss Mountain Men and Alone from the History Channel but I have seen them pop up on Netflix from time to time so if it comes on there and I havenāt seen it maybe Iāll binge it or something.
I switched to Kinetic Fiber and YouTube TV. I ditched Xfinity after 10 years or so, I donāt see how that Xfinity model can make it long term. I even get a much clearer picture on YouTube TV. My internet speeds are so much faster and I am paying 1/2 of what I was paying before.
You dont even need very good internet with YouTube TV.
I donāt need to tell you guys ive been an absolute sports junky my entire adult life. As soon as i struck out on my own, I had Directv, full package, sunday ticket, all the bells and whistles. Money was no object when it came to getting all the games i want.
I cut the cord like 6 years ago and have never looked back. I started with fubo, and it did have some picture issues with my slow internet. About 4 years ago i switched to YouTube TV and have had 0 issues, period.
The entire time, ive paid 40 dollars for internet. Itās bare bones and it works just fine. And thatās with multiple devices, kids tablets, wife doomscrolling, etc.
YTTV even works great streaming games in the middle of nowhere rural iowa because of my job. Very rarely even have issues there either.
You should consider filing charges for all the $$$ they stole from you, Ryon ![]()
I have ezee fiber internet. Can you watch all the sports / UH on YouTube if cable is cancelled?
Yes, you will need to make sure you have the package you need that carries like ESPNNEWS and ESPNU. Itās super easy tho the package options will show all the channels included and you can switch packages at ANY time. I believe the expanded sports package itself is like 12 extra bucks, but look into it fully.
You will still need to pay for Peacock and ESPN+ separately as necessary. I believe we all will start playing increasingly more on peacock as part of our media rights deal. I donāt remember the specifics off the top of my head.
But this is only another reason to stream imo, because youāll have to do it anyways to get all the games.
You also get all the NCAA tournament games on YTTV which is another big plus over fubo, for example. And the unlimited recording options is awesome because i can set it to record all Big 12 games for example and it automatically sorts everything for you very conveniently.
YouTube TV gives you all the sports channels plus ESPN Unlimited.
Get that subscription, and you can catch nearly all UH games.
You donāt need to get Peacock for sports. YouTube TV now has a NBC Sports Network, and a few alternates, that simulcast sports from Peacock. That means you can watch all the MLB wildcard games without leaving YouTube TV.
Sounds good to me! Iāll be watching the 'stros on NBCSN via YouTube TV.
Thanks Iāll check into this
