I’m thinking about making that trip. My little sister graduates from Berkeley this semester so we can have a fun bragging rights series. Hope we’re competitive this year. Gotta play Oregon St and UT earlier in the week? That’s tough.
It doesn’t appear to be as weak as I thought it might be.

I have a source that I find credible that reached out and told me things are not good within the program.
I think we all understand TW should have been fired at least 3 seasons ago based on the team’s performance.
Nothing is going to improve, not in my eyes.
The scrimmage against A&M should have set off the alarms….We know TW primarily recruits Juco guys at this point….i will not get back into why this is….for any newcomers you are welcome to get into some past threads and you will find the reason.
When your team gets ONE hit in 11 innings with all of your shiny new recruits, well you may have a problem.
Tristan Russell and Conner Bennett were not even taken to the scrimmage….it had nothing to do with any sort of discipline issue or anything like that….purely a coaching decision.
Russell was a kid that was headed to play at Florida St. and changed his commitment to stay and play at UH was a nationally ranked player.
Conner Bennett, a great catching prospect( top 300 player in the nation) that stayed close to home
I personally think TW is a horrible judge of talent.
Last year many of us openly wondered how a freshman with his talent was not playing.
When he finally got an opportunity the kid hit .321 with a .406 OBP and a 1.013 OPS.
Common sense would tell you that you were set at catcher.
Nope.
Both players were told they were not part of the plan for UH and would not be on the team anymore.
This happened this past week.
I’ve got some more insight into this that I’ll share soon.
So sad and disappointing. We’ve seen this before and always hope to see a glimmer of hope. Ain’t happening.
Thanks for the update. None of that surprises me at all. You could see last year that he wasn’t the biggest CB fan. He only played him cause he had to later in the season and all the kid did was hit. That skill set obviously couldn’t be used on this year’s team. They are way too talented. I am not sure what to say about TR, but when TW makes up his mind, it is over. He obviously has something against them both and will not play them. I guess you could say that at least he is telling them before the season so they can play somewhere else. Both of those players will not have a hard time finding a new home. With that said, I am sure TW promised all “the shiny new toys” that they were going to play. He is a horrible evaluator and that will show again this year.
Hopefully with a new AD, Todd can head into retirement after this season.

Well, if I were running things, I wouldn’t hesitate to surgically remove the cancers and I don’t care if they hired Ryan Elvin to help run the baseball program this year. Can’t be any worse and I’m almost confident Woody would be a good manager/recruiter - at least light years better than we have now.
Kiv is a piece of crap. I have been trying to say that over and over on here, in different ways. He could care less about his players and only cares about moving up in the industry. He will walk over anyone who gets in his way. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if he was disrespectful of Woody. It also wouldn’t surprise me if he was throwing TW under the bus since he moved back to Tennessee. Kiv is all about Kiv.

I’m tempted, easy drive or flight from north of Seattle. I’ll probably be taking the long weekend for the kids with my wife out of town anyway. Might be nice to get out of the nasty part of PNW winter by then.
It’s super easy to get to Berkeley from either SF or OAK airports. You can ride BART all the way to the campus. Personally I recommend flying into to Oakland because it shaves about 45-60 minutes off the BART ride.
So, I take it that we will have “Houston Blue” uniforms this season? I’m actually intrigued by how they will look.
Like old school Phillies would be my guess.
