Hippos, Yucatán liquor stand, Volvano and Ocean club come to mind. Bayou Mamas Heaven and Riches!!!
We would hit Volcano, Yucatán Liquor Stand, The Pig and Whistle, and Sam’s Boat.
We used to sit outside at the Pig and Whistle to drink pitchers of beer. When we finished a pitcher, we would put them through the gaps in the fence so we could pick them up and take them home when we left.
We must have crossed path many times.
These rice o roni students were a pain in the a…We were like Animal House vs them. Pompous redefined. I had a few good time though with some of their girlfriends. Again these tacos, unreal.
I knew it closed but did not know their tore the building down.
If I would start a pub today I would design it like The Pig and Whistle.
I forgot about the tacos. I think the tacos were $1 each. One of my buddies was from Ohio. He would order 3 tacos and write him an out of state check for $3. ![]()
I don’t think anyone mentioned Wild West yet.
Now you’re on my timeline. Lol
Got my fake id in 1996. Blue planet, city streets, outback pub, Pete’s wildlife (6400 before 6400), Dave’s backyard, and before that a place called red square.
Rich’s and numbers and fitzgeralds, rockefellers and the Vatican (later abyss) for music. Good damn times!
Monday night $3 pitchers marquis. Tuesday $4 teas marquis and pint night at timberwolves. Wednesday $1 you call its city streets. Thursday $2 you call its Sam’s boat and Sam place before they moved them together and got rid of the parking lot between them.
Yes, I forgot about Red Square. I didn’t mention Outback Pub because I don’t consider it a club. But yes, you and I were likely at a lot of the same places.
Not a club, but UH architecture students used to frequent Valhalla at Nerd U for 25 cent Shiner on tap.
I do remember that. That is how they got their business.
Best 1990’s clubs (the ones I can remember):
- Red Square
- Pete’s Wildlife
- Crystal
- XTC
- Metropolis
- Extravaganza
- Blue Planet
- Sam’s Boat
I was a big club goer for my first year or two in college, then met my GF (who became my wife) and sort of stopped going. I will say this: I saved myself a lot of money by getting a GF!!
With that said, those were good times. I wish young folks had the club experience today like we had then.
Milton Hopkins at the Reddi Room
El Crystal, forgot about that one. I thought Metropolis/Extravaganza were combined, I think they are still in business.
TOC Bar downtown, I saved former Coog safety Jermain Woodard’s life there!
Peters Wildlife
Blue planet
Bayou Mama’s
Kaboom
