Big 12 Conference to Host First-Ever Big 12 Business Summit

The Big 12 Business Summit will gather marketing and sales leadership staff from each Conference member institution for a symposium focused on key industry topics, best practices, networking opportunities, guest speakers and more. This first-time event was established to create a space for new and existing members to share best practices in an effort to drive business forward. Speakers at the Business Summit will include senior staff from the Conference office, executives from agency partners Endeavor and Translation, Big 12 Advisory Board members and other industry leaders.

“As our Conference continues to innovate and grow, the first-ever Big 12 Business Summit will gather leadership from each institution to discuss best-in-class practices and industry opportunities,” said Commissioner Brett Yormark. “The insights and strategies discussed during the Summit will allow our Conference to continue to trailblaze, as well as to build brands and drive revenue.”

I like this. I can’t see UT-Austin ever wanting to participate or even allow something like this to happen when they were “in charge”
This is a rising tide lifts all boats kind of thing while UT was a let’s see if we can sink a few boats kind of place.

UT’s mascot and colors suck. A&M’s mascot sucks but their colors are good. UH has a great mascot and colors. It’s really great not being in a conf with uppity UT always trying to screw others when they already had advantages. In the sec, they will be ok in bb etc but in football, they will be average.

The new Big 12 has like and like minded schools. Sure we have three private schools but they act like big public schools.

Academically all the schools are good. We don’t have a top 20 school but all of them are very solid academically.

All of them want to succeed at Football AND Basketball.

All and all a very solid conference.

It’s excellent that they’re bringing in Endeavor. They’re the kings of entertainment and sports brand management. (Quick note: Ari Gold from HBO’s Entourage is inspired by Ari Emanual, the Endeavor founder/CEO, so if that tells you anything). Yormark is doing some incredible moves by helping take a conference that was losing its anchors and strategically working to build something special here. On paper, these are impressive and innovative moves. I’m sure that the SEC and Big 10 have not had to do the same level of strategy, but I’m thrilled to see Yormark’s leadership in action. Finally, UH is taking its place in a P5 and has the opportunity to be a part of a conference during this period of formative planning and also have an equitable seat at the table. It’s kismet, folks.

All the new XII schools are great centers of education where there is relative parity among academic access, opportunities, and athleticism. I do hope that by working with these schools, UH, as a whole (administration, system and all), is able to organically grow into a further polished and focused version of itself. Now is the time to look around the table of new peers and actively participate in the escalation of its academic and athletic reputation within the city, the state, and the nation. Essentially, iron sharpening iron.
