The ND exception is only for a 12 or 14 team playoff. If they expand it to 16 or more, ND should make the playoffs without an exception anyway.

I feel like TCU did this with Gary Patterson, so there’s some sort of precedent within the Big 12.
Sure, it was during that weird period slightly during/after the Pandemic, but it was still odd to see them get rid of the best Coach (statistically) in their football history.
