Big 12 Football 2025-2026

An an Iowan, I’m quite curious to hear in what way. Really anything at all that stands out that you can articulate.

Way more Confederate flags in the old south for starters…

I live in Lee County, NC… One day an old white guy randomly told me, at Food Lion, “that if a Hhhwhite man didn’t join the Klan back in the day they’d beat you within an inch of your life…”

Never heard that in TX… Although, I did used to see the Klan in Dayton and Cleveland (country towns outside Houston) as a kid.

The first thing I noticed is the different dialect. It’s not that it’s hard to understand, but the accent, idioms, and such are different. Also, I found the social structure to be very provincial. Most people’s social groups were with people who went to high school together, were related, or were old family friends going back a couple of generations. Everyone is nice and very polite, but there is a noticeable distance and awkwardness if you’re not in the immediate social circle. It’s just always seemed obvious that I’m “not from around here”. By contrast, I have not noticed this in developing friendships and acquaintances in Texas in small towns or larger cities.

The food lol.

And Texas is the most urbanized state

Compare that to Louisiana, miss, Alabama and so on.

No it’s not.

CA, NV, and NJ, in that order.

That said, yes, TX is more urbanized than the “Deep South.”

Sharp! Well done.

That’s old data.

That’s because NV has nothing at all except Vegas & Reno… the rest of it is desert.

This is a case of a single statistic being used to incorrectly characterize a subject.

Saw that TCU posted they sold out their single game tickets for their home opener this year. I do not imagine TCU sold out ALL tickets for their home opener. Makes me wonder, how many tickets get held back for mini packages at TCU, UH or other Big 12 schools like Iowa St or Kansas St.

That’s funny, the first thing I noticed were the lights and thought they were really neat.
