Big 12 / Pac 12 / B10 Expansion Thread (Part 1)

Utah could not have done the independence thing half as well. Especially not without recent success (as was the case with BYU when they left the MWC. So I think the overall brand clause differential is pretty substantial.

Utah has the higher football brand now, but it’s contingent on winning. If they miss a few steps they’re Colorado with fewer people

lol…K State and Iowa State, yeah these guys move the needle…they were the Oregon State and WaState of last year…

I’m old enough to remember the days when UH owned Utah! I’ll do some research and post some of the scores.

I’m talking about immediately dropping the hammer of Thor. Utah leads the all-time series 59-32 over BYU. That’s almost a 2-1 advantage. Utah will probably open the season at less than 12-1 to make the playoffs. We no longer live in a 20 year sports horizon. You’re rated on what you did yesterday. If Utah were in the B12 today (with Ou/Texas and the other four) they’d still be picked to win the conference championship. And that’s with the possibility of that group ending the season with 7 teams in the Top 25. With the added benefit that they aren’t going to the Big10.

  1. UH 42 UU 16
    1977 UH 34 UU 16
    1978 UH 42 UU 25

Just a sampling I’m sure there’s more! Still, I’d love having Uu in the Big 12!

I think that pretty much says that we’re doing our best to expand.

Last season The U. of Arizona Football team played both Utah and BYU.

The BYU game was in Las Vegas at their Pro Stadium. Attendance was 54,500.

Later Arizona hosted Utah in Tucson. Attendance was 32,000.

You could ask virtually any Wildcat fan if you could choose only one of them to play which one would you choose? The overwhelming choice would be BYU.

With BYU our Big 12 has The Salt Lake City market, which isn’t exactly gigantic anyway.

We need Phoenix. We could use Denver and San Diego.

Do not need Utah.

Gonna disagree. In the battle of which conference is going to end up #3 amongst the p5 Utah moves you there by a quantum leap over SDST and Colorado.
And getting Utah means you can get SDst any time you want. Bringing SDst in doesn’t bring anybody brand wise. But if you want to win the population national championship bring in San Jose State, SMU, FAU, and Columbia to pair with SDst.

San Diego St played Utah last season. And who won? The Aztecs won.

Utah played Oregon in The PAC 12 Title game last December in Las Vegas. The attendance was virtually the same as Arizona Vs BYU in that Stadium last September.

Utah does not seem to sell tickets at some large rate. In Football they could not defeat San Diego St.

I favor both Arizona schools, Colorado, and San Diego St.

Meh.

Bringing in SDST when you can cripple the PAC by stealing its conference champion just screams downgrade to me.

Lol! Will the MWC expand? Uh . . . yes! With Oregon State, Washington State and Cal.

Its a shame but some programs lived on the largesse of others for decades. And some programs were kept out of the feed trough that should have been eating. I feel horrible for WSU and Oregon State but UH would have run roughshod with the same amount of exposure and assets that they were granted over the last 30+ years.

Been in and around Raleigh Durham for 15 yrs that area is still a southern culture. Most of the t-shirt fans are native southerners and I would say a lot of the well heeled old money donors. It’s 50-50 and if Virginia agrees and a huge offer arrives, I think NC goes south.

Texas is a better fit for the B10 and they couldn’t pull themselves to even do it.

Hopefully this wasn’t posted before

Teams can rise up and fall. Wisconsin used to be a bottom feeder in the Big10 then they got Barry Alvarez along with the 85 ship limit and climbed out. Oregon also used to be nothing. K state was nothing before bill synder. Clemson only recently was good bc of their coach. We do have a great opportunity to be very good again bc of built in advantages of recruiting here. We always do well with just a good coach. Tv played a role bc it used to be only 3 channels with ND and USC,Mich etc then cable tv and more stations was a game changer to move up. Amazingly, we were good before tv and the ship limit changed and with the lack of facilities, etc.

Looks like they changed the article’s title from:

to

Those two are my favorite brands. Stanford and Washington would be perfect foursome in the XII
