I personally don’t think that that will happen unless the PAC loses more schools, and even if it happens in that case, it’ll be proof that the PAC is TOAST and has no choice but to abandon its principles and essentially relegate itself to a “G” level conference.
The B1G doesn’t invite non-AAU members other than ND before they became AAU, and now that ND is AAU, they won’t even vet, much less invite a non-AAU member. Need proof? All the schools that they have reportedly vetted for membership are AAU members.
For the PAC, the unofficial/unwritten requirement is R1 and secular.
If that weren’t the case, then they would have invited BYU eons ago.
Would a scenario where UH ended up in the PAC, as a P4, AND eliminated 3-5 current P5 schools (i.e WVU, Baylor, ISU, etc.) AND prevented the promotion of 3 other G5s ( UCF, UC, BYU) be a better scenario than what we got in the Big 12 WITH the promotion of 4 G5s and possibly 2 more if the PAC adds SDSU & SMU.
I know your argument is going to be that the Big 12 has more in-state rivals BUT TTU & TCU would ALSO have moved to the PAC in that scenario.
Yes, the Big 12 is our home but the PAC raiding the Big 12 PLUS UH would have been the better fate for us and there isnt even an argument against it.
The current arrangement created MORE competition for us!!!
They are the leader because that is what the Kansas City newspaper called them…i read a whole bunch about Big 12 in that paper at the time…feel free to read them…
Are you replying to the first paragraph or the UH entry part?
If the first part, a paper in Kansas says a Kansas team is the leader means absolutely nothing. Have a consensus outside the state consider them that. Otherwise they have not been dominant in anyway other than their fans minds of thinking they are the dominant team in the conference historically speaking.
If the second part, not sure what the paper said about UH entry.
1 or 2 or 4 of the PAC12 4-corners schools jump to the BIG12 after deciding the PAC12 TV deal will be substantially less the BIG12’s. They could do this anytime before next July 1.
This creates an opening for SDSU in the PAC12 which ‘holds its nose’ and invites them.
Get your tickets now for the “Best of the Rest” Bowl Game between what’s left of the PAC12 and MWC! When those two play, you can throw out the record books.
So is there a correlation between tv ratings and stadium capacity? Maybe the two are viewed in conjunction as a “fan apathy” rating. But it seems to me that things are trending to where people would just rather watch the game at home. I don’t see why an ESPN-type would care much for stadium attendance. Seems that they’d prefer more butts on couches. The conference may care a bit more if they’re getting a cut of tickets sales.
I think the future of college sports is creating a smaller, more luxurious venue experience for those attending, and a more engaging experience for those at home. That’s why I really like the new luxury box stadium upgrades. If I could just get a splash pad so my kids could go play while I watch the game in peace from my seat, I’d be happy.
While SDSU won’t make a lot of money they’re path to the NY 6 is much easier where they are. Its really a five team race: SDSU, Fresno, Memphis, Boise, and Tulane.
I feel bad for the Aztecs. This could easily be us, and kind of was not so long ago. Who knows what the PAC-12 told them. The best thing they can do is keep working on what they can control and building their value.
