We’re at 200m. Just get up to 500m so we can make the case. Doesn’t matter if we’re ahead of TT as if that’s the bar.
And btw, research doesn’t make an institution great. There are plenty that don’t have that and are far more focused on the undergrad experience, I.e. Williams, etc.
That said, UH has put itself out there as a national research school, so 200m isn’t going to do it.
It just ticks me off that schools like Oregon are in the AAU club with only $139 million in research.

Well i know most Big 12 schools want heavy exposure in Texas and i can understand why, but im thrilled that WVU will have heavy exposure in Ohio and Florida and when the ACC collapses Pitt, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech would be my first choices based upon recruiting territory…that is where we have traditionally made hey

Cal hasn’t been good at any major sport in a long time. At one point they disbanded baseball and softball. There’s been talk of them stopping all major sports and focusing on Olympic/Leisure sports for a chunk.
I would NOT invite them, even if it includes Stanford.
I would invite Stanford, and say “When ACC implodes, we will invite one of Duke, Georgia Tech, or Wake Forest if you join and stay committed for multiple media contracts. Ideally you get either GT or Duke from that. Add SDSU to pair with Stanford, then go to 24 instead of 20. Round out the 6 Eastern adds of Georgia Tech and/or Duke with Louisville, Pittsburgh, UConn, Miami or Va Tech or NC State.
That puts 6 out west, 6 up north, 6 on east, 6 on south.

I still think competitive balance is screwy with all of Texas in one pod, but that’s the only way I’m taking Stanford is if they commit to 2 Media contracts and we commit to finding them an Academic pairing.

That’s ignorance, my dude. Since 2010 they have a top-10 combined Football/Basketball win percentage, and they have a history with Baseball, and a SoCal footprint.
I understand they need some building up, but they are a good athletics take.
I understand if it doesn’t happen, but San Diego is a rich recruiting base, and you don’t just want to hand it to the BIG.

I have nothing against SDSU as a school or athletic program; ESPN/FOX will not pay for them.
Again, 24 teams is never happening.
Are you not paying attention to how the rumors that the BIG and SEC are likely to be 24 teams when it’s all said and done? Only way they aren’t is if they start to contract.
ESPN wants multiple PST options, and SDSU has a better competitive brand and market than Oregon State and Washington State. If you add SDSU to Stanford, that gives two California markets and 2 true PST slots to pair with the seasons Arizona teams can be PST.

Chill JM. Don’t want to jump into your debate with 3, but it’s too western heavy and there are only so many prorata contracts to go around. We’re prob conflating issues, but it gets to the same conclusion, which is SDSU likely doesn’t work. Pick up Stanford. And then build out east.

Not ESPN.
You have to remember that ESPN initially wanted the Big 12 to stop at 14 (not contractual) with Arizona unless we somehow got Oregon and Washington. Not sure where that changed in the timeline, but it was a last minute decision I assume. FOX’s media deal with the Big 12 contractually stopped at 14, but they would consider 16 as a handshake-agreement.
24 teams is way too much for a single conference. There aren’t “rumors” that the power conferences are going to 24 teams. Those are just fan theories.
The most I see for each conference is 20, and even that in my opinion is almost crossing the line.

I agree that IF we added two west coast teams it would be Stanford and San Diego State. . Gets us to 18, then add 4 east coast from ACC to get to 22.

If 6 Western programs is too Western Heavy, then I wouldn’t even bother adding Stanford, who is unlikely to actually stick around and just as unlikely to consistently focus on revenue sports.

Again, nothing against SDSU, but be realistic here.
SDSU, just like Washington State and Oregon State, only have an existence in a P5 conference if it’s regional.
The Big 12 is forming into a national conference, yes, but it will only add teams that are already P5 because that’s what ESPN/FOX would allow.
Technically, Stanford and Cal aren’t P5 given the current circumstances, but they still both have value considering that the B1G hasn’t technically denied them yet. They just haven’t extended the invite.
