In my experience, there is a very complicated “model” that has operated with inadequate control/review for a while. A simple bust can be compounded over time. New people inherit the model without fully understanding it. When people lack knowledge they wing it.

Lacrosse. Hmmmmm. Seems like an ACC sport.

Native American sport. First original one.

Im guessing we get USC and UCLA as partial members for Beach Volleyball and Denver in Women’s Lacrosse.

Those are interesting selections.

I guess one doesn’t require much equipment or clothing for that matter to cut down costs.

Lacrosse though? Hmm seems a bit random for this part of the country. Wondering what the other options were.

At Houston St.John’s lacrosse is probably the second biggest sport behind only football for boys, and is also one of the biggest sports for girls.

Don’t you have to balance out Men and Women sports
50/50?

On the big board, for UH adds:

Men’s Soccer + Women’s Gymnastics

Men’s Wrestling + Women’s Beach Volleyball

Men’s Lacrosse + Women’s Lacrosse

The next sport added still has to be for women. Football scholarships are just such a huge number.

We should offer women’s bowling (we already have lanes. It would cost nothing) and beach volleyball.

I’m not seeing men’s soccer simply because the Big 12 doesn’t sponsor it.

If we added another men’s sport
it would probably need to be swimming or tennis.

No.

Women’s gymnastics will be the first sport added if we add another sport.

Houston is a powerhouse of local gymnastic talent, and with Shannon Miller as an alum and Simone Biles as a potential coach (she has publicly said she’d consider it), it’s a no brainer.

In state
our only D1 competition would be from Texas Women’s U., so we’d have little trouble with local recruiting.

Nope.

Fertitta Center isn’t designed with retractable seats. There isn’t enough space to host meets. Maybe Tilman gives us the Toyota Center but then where do we practice?

Startup costs for gymnastics are quite high.

I’m pretty sure we could host events in the athletic/alumni center.

Where we plan on building out a world class indoor track facility?

Pretty sure it could be done without too many complications.

If Central Michigan and six other MAC teams can field D1 women’s gymnastics teams with nowhere near the resources, infrastructure, and facilities that UH has
then it’s obviously NOT as tough to add as you allege.

Really just the cost of the apparatus, and the usual costs of coaches, uniforms, scholarships, etc.

It came up as recently as 2018.

Bowling ain’t on the radar.

Women’s Soccer is the equivalent to Men’s Football.

It’s why we don’t have a Men’s Soccer Team.

Women’s soccer comes nowhere close to “equalizing” the 85 scholarships of men’s football.

That’s why we have more than one women’s only sport (tennis, swimming, volleyball, soccer).
