Big XII flag

Don’t hold your breath. Just because the SEC expanded, don’t assume that anyone else will.

Too soon? I still complain about the '79 Cotton Bowl. And with Joe Montana doing that Guiness commercial??!!

I’ve sworn off Guinness since that commerical.

Better get a PAC 14 or 16 flag instead. We’re doing a drive by on the B12 and cya, wouldn’t wanna be you, in the rearview mirror.

I remember that I couldn’t wait to see the Big 12 emblem on Mountaineer Field…cool as hades when it debuted…our first Big 12 game was a defensive battle with WVU coming out on top of Baylor 70-63

Remember that game like yesterday. Oiler vs Bills. Even with lead we had . Had this feeling in the pit of my stomach we weren’t out of the woods. God bless Buddy Ryan for going after Gilbride in the following year for having him to keep putting his D out there with 3 and outs, as he called the Oilers offense chuck and duck.

Was that Coach Huggins vs Coach Scott Drew! :upside_down_face:

There is continued rumor an innuendo about WVU to the ACC but that has been happening since the ACC was formed from the old Southern Conference. I pray WVU does NOT join the ACC because I really am convinced that the SEC and B1G will kill the ACC in 2036. To me it makes far more sense for the Big 12 to wait it out to poach the ACC leftovers. I mean I get that WVU would like to get its traditional rivalries back but with patience we could get them back by inviting those schools into our “Big 20 Conference”

Why would the ACC expand? They’re in the middle of media country, in the best time zone, and all their schools are within nice travel distance.

People just want things to happen so they say things. What does it mean, “Clemson is down with the ACC expanding.”?

Is it a drunk fan? Their back-up QB? Does their AD just make blanket statements not knowing the outcome?

No, that was a football game…or at least it was played on a football field. Our defense was not nearly as good as it is now. LOL

Here is the thing about ACC expansion…the ACC is locked into a horribly undervalued TV media rights deal until 2036 and can’t renegotiate that deal…UNLESS…they expand. An ACC expansion would trigger an open free market renegotiation of the ACC TV rights deal. Now how valuable that renegotiated deal is can be anyone’s guess, but if they ACC thinks it can get competitive revenue with the B1G and SEC then they would do it, and that is the ONLY way I would endorse WVU making that move…if the ACC could get 60 million per share revenue then WVU would have to accept an invitation if it came…and that level of revenue would protect the ACC from being poached. I don’t know if they can get it, or if they can is Notre Dame part of the equation? Who knows

sure would like to see the uh logo on that flag on the sides of our helmets

So why not expand and get out of that horrible deal. W.Virginia and Cincinnati are right there. Only plausible caveat is that expansion would somehow nullify the existing GOR which then puts North Carolina and Virginia in play for the BIG.

I think the point the guy was trying to make was that the ACC will get left out of the playoff if Clemson isn’t on top so expansion would help their cause. Some of these guys just blow hot air but I think sometimes they hope someone with any voice in decisions is listening.

Buddy Ryan punching Gilbride was the first football game I ever attended. Didn’t even know the punch happened until the next day.

Well the question I think that would have to be answered is…if the contract is renegotiated, can it be expected that the renegotiated deal brings in enough revenue to protect the ACC? Because if it doesn’t then the SEC and B1G could raid the ACC 15 years early. And that’s why I tend to doubt the ACC will expand. I think the only possible formula that might get the ACC to B1G or SEC revenue is one that includes Notre Dame, and a plus 1 (I suspect the plus 1 would be WVU) So essentially I think ACC expansion rumors are a tad bit fanciful, or fairy tale like…I think its more likely that I woke up tomorrow with my head sown to the carpet.

My understanding is that the ACC schools are locked in a GOR agreement through 2036 and no school can be poached by the BIG or SEC at least until that term expires.

Similar to OU & UT except that both will pay significant penalties to leave two years before their GOR expires or choose two wait the 3 years.

Unlike the big12, the ACC has 14 years before it’s GOR expires. This is what protects the conference, not potential expansion revenue, which will still fall below the SEC and BIG anyway.

The conference’s grant of rights makes it financially untenable for a school to leave, guaranteeing in the 20 years of the deal that a school’s media rights, including revenue, for all home games would remain with the ACC regardless of the school’s affiliation

.

You’ve been listening to WVU Fan too much. :unamused:

Yes, youre dancing all around it…the SEC and B1G can’t poach ACC schools now with the current rights deal in place until they get very close to the 2036 expiration of that rights deal…HOWEVER Clemson and FSU are pissed to the 4 corners of hades that they only get a 30 million per year revenue share vs an SEC 60 million per year share. So in 2036 the ACC will be raided by the SEC and B1G…Now, the ACC would of course want to avoid being destroyed in 2036 so they might try to fish to potential media partners to gage value of an expanded ACC (remember an expansion will automatically trigger a renegotiation of the contract) so the ACC will try to find out IF the value of a new ACC contract can reach SEC and B1G levels (not likely)…if they do get that level of value they will expand, and if they don’t get that revenue commitment then they won’t expand. I don’t think this is very complicated…if ACC can get ‘Mo’ money…they will do it…if they can’t get ‘Mo’ money…they wont.

I mean its already happened. The Big 12 went from 10 to 8 to 12 because of SEC expansion.
