Big12 Basketball 2025-26

Jerome Tang’s buyout is BRUTAL.

This is extortion lol.

Before April 30, 2026 — $18.675 million
Before 4/30 of following seasons:
2026-27 season — $15.75 million
2027-28 season — $12.75 million
2028-29 season — $9.675 million
2029-30 season — $6.525 million
Between May 2030 and April 2031 — $4.4 million or remaining unpaid salary

Honestly, realistically? He gets two more years after this one. Even $9.675 mil is A LOT when you look at the situation as a whole.

Have you listened to John Kurtz talk about this?

I think the only hope for K state fans is that he takes less money to keep the pool for NIL. If he keeps his salary high and still doesn’t produce with lots of nil the nil money will dry up. Then his legacy dies even further.

Five Big 12 coaches have lifetime contracts. Well, I know one does.

“If he had a chance to do it all over again, would he?” Now the rest of us know wtf it was all about. Never a blip on a UH fan’s radar. Thanks for the backstory.

Understandable, happy to share.

The backstory of OUR side of things in response to this fiasco is as follows:

They are so far off on judging his character, which is hilarious because he’s transparently readable with even the most cursory good-faith examination.

They just see what they wanna see. I get it, it’s a bitter pill to swallow you allowed yourself to be conned. Nobody likes to admit that to themselves, it’s human nature.

But I guarantee you, he would 100% do it again. He can’t help himself. This isn’t a one off. He’s cartoonishly obnoxious and chronically ridiculous. It’s terminal and visceral to his core.

The price of decent relations being reestablished is recognition and admission of this. It’s been simmering for a long time, and consider the last two years from these two programs, respectively.

Talk about vindication. Now it’s time for full accountability and mea culpa… i realize this will never happen so, i guess it just makes the rivalry that much more bitter and I’m ok with that too lol.

Was considering your awesome post for guys on their last Big 12 go-round. I made a joke that this means Momcilovic is coming back, but after digging into it, I actually do think he’s coming back. Let’s consider what that means.

Milan Momcilovic has to be the odds-on favorite for Big 12 POY next year (as of right now). @pesik

Mock drafts have him going somewhere in the 48 to 53 range, and the rookie scale for the 48th pick would have him making 1.27 million annually. With the new salary cap allotted $$ being a big boost for Iowa State, I expect Momcilovic will get the Joshua Jefferson treatment this offseason.

https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/info/rookie_scale

Jefferson is currently our highest paid player, deservedly so. Keeping him around was critical to taking what was likely to be a tournament team (to your point, pesik) but around 6th to 9th in the Big 12 depending on a few factors, and elevating them to being better than last year. Something nobody really saw coming, myself included, if I’m being totally honest.

Jefferson is making somewhere between 1.5-1.75 million this year. That was a huge commitment for ISU. Momcilovic will be offered AT LEAST that, likely more now that ISU will be on more stable and sustainable financial ground under the new rules.

Knowing Momcilovic especially, like Jefferson (and really all of our main guys under TJ), it doesn’t really matter what offers come in from other schools. Listen to his on-court postgame interview vs Colorado where he talks about why he came to ISU, if you don’t believe me. Other offers won’t be seriously considered.

There will be some negotiating and matching market forces of course, but it doesn’t need to be dollar for dollar. There’s a ton of precedent in our program for that, no reason to think Momcilovic is any different, quite the opposite. He might be the most TJ-loyal guy there is, which is saying a lot.

No need to be cynical about that, it’s a benefit of building the way that we do, as opposed to some other roster-building strategies at similar schools (looking at you, KState lol)

I also think that means we can expect ISU to retain every rotation guy besides Jeff, Lipsey, and Heise (Nelson doesn’t really play, but he’s also gone). That means Momcilovic, Toure, Buchanan, Batemon, Pleta return that experienced culture-infused developmental core that is Otzelbeger’s signature. You add two talented freshmen in Gray and Wiggins, and two ready-out-the-box foreign Bigs in Jackson Kiss and Ronaldo Dorian-Komlan. You also have a promising wing sitting-out w/ injury in Mason Williams that everyone forgets about.

The portal work will be pretty light and ISU can afford to be really choosey and big-picture-saavy once again. They will bring someone in tho, they always do. I don’t see any reason we should expect ISU not to be in a similar preseason position that they were this year @pesik . In the top 15-25 range, with the same pricless DNA (similarly to our friends in H-Town), and with a couple breaks they can possibly be right back where they are this year right now.

TJ Otzelberger truly is one of the best in the business, and I won’t tolerate any slander lol. Hopefully we don’t sleep on them again this offseason…myself included.

This thing will PROBABLY just keep rolling, probably a perennial contenter (at least fringe/darkhorse) if you look at it big picture. ISU has earned that, but it all really takes a huge leap in likelihood with Mr. Momcilovic coming back!

Have been combing some stats and looking up TT since they have a big home game with KU tomorrow.

Wondering if the heavy min will catch up to TT.
Thinking TT should win at home but one day rest following a grueling game @ UCF.
Toppin, Atwell and Anderson rarely come off the floor some games but I haven’t seen anyone with the load Anderson has gotten. He averages 38.5 min/gm for the season. He has played 38-40 min every Big 12 game with majority being all 40.
In non conference 37+ in every game but 1 and that one was still 35.

that’ll be a concern for them in the B12 tourney (assuming they’re not a top 2 seed) and the E8 of the tournament proper but they’re probably going to have a response coming back home after getting punked plus peterson is a ticking timebomb himself even though kansas managed to beat nc state and the vols away from home without him

Then again KU doesn’t have much depth and if Peterson is not playing they have no depth and lose their one go-to talent.

UH # 8.
