Tech (should have rolled Abilene Christian. Did they play down to an inferior opponent?)
Oklahoma State (worse than last year, which was already bad).
TCU (embarrassing).

BYU and Houston still conference champ contrnders.
Is Auburn good?

I don’t see how losing to Auburn, who aren’t good, is a key indicator of “stock up” lol
I watched the game.
Auburn will be better than last year.
They were 5-7 in 2025, but of those 7 losses, one was by 10 points, the rest were 1 score games.
No one blew them out, and they have improved at QB.
But we digress.
Whose stock is up (or down) in the Big12 now that every team has played at least 1 game?
Lagway is a turd on a stick. He’s a minus. Arranda will be gone after this year. They lost to a middling rebuilding SEC program… at home. There’s no boost there.
Fair enough. But Baylor was not “at home”

Houston is up. West Virginia is up. Tech stays the same. Baylor is down (very disappointed in them), TCU is garbage.And Okie State is down… they’ll have to wait on their ROI. I didn’t see Utah, but I’ll short them based on the new coach/players etc. I didn’t see BYU, but expect they’re in the same place after week one. So, I’d agree with the overall sentiment - except Tech. Not much movement at the top… The lessons of week one played out in the middle of the conference… And maybe at the bottom. I think TCU, Baylor, and Okie St may well battle over the bottom.

I forgot to include Colorado… People will say they’re “up”, after GT. But GTech isn’t good and neither is Colorado. They only won because Tech’s staff are jackasses. Colorado’s schedule is crap but looks like 6-6 or 7-5. But I’ll take the hype for now until October when they lose 5 out of 6.
What happened in the TCU game that makes you say that about them?
TCU has a 6-6 ceiling. More likely 5-7 and if they lose to the likes of UCF, they could end up 4-8. They could improve, of course, or maybe they’re just bad… I think they’re awful. And if you’re paying attention to UNC, they’re program is literally about to burn to the ground. TCUs loss to UNC will look worse and worse over time.
Or, UNC is better this season. Or they played a game overseas. Or it was week one and we really don’t know how those two teams (and all the rest of the teams in this thread) will do as the season goes on.
Rumblings in Fort Worth. First the locker room fight in August. Then, pulling credentials from a beat reporter at the Fort Worth Star Telegram. Then the Dublin debacle against North Carolina. Then reinstatement of the reporter’s credentials.
Tough start of the season for Sonny Dykes. Stock is on a downward trajectory.
They certainly improved at QB with Byron Brown > Arnold, but Byron has always been prone to interceptions, even when he was at USF.
I suspect he’ll have plenty more (he just had 3 against Baylor), costing Auburn some games.
Nothing I saw from Tech yesterday says that they are a forced to be reckoned with
I don’t believe Lagway is the 5* recruit he was touted to be when he committed to Florida, but he does have some talent, and that talent alone is enough to be competent in the Big 12.
He made some game-changing plays yesterday (while injured) and in a tough away environment. They should’ve won that game and although I like the ballsy play-calling from Aranda to go for 2, I think Baylor is gonna be a nuisance in the Big 12 (a la WVU or TCU last season).
Going for two isn’t ballsy, it’s stupid. Especially when OT rules force it at some point. It’s low percentage. And Lagway lost the game for Baylor with that garbage throw that gave the receiver no chance to make it to the end zone. It was a stupid call and executed poorly. And the result Is an L against a mediocre Auburn team. Thats the stuff that gets coaches fired.
I say it was ballsy - you had an injured QB, so OT probably would’ve been difficult for him to manage, and you had a good play (executed fairly well - to me the WR turned inwardly, making it easier for the defender to meet him before the goal line).
Had the WR turned outwardly, he would’ve walked it in.
With that fact pattern, kicking is the intelligent thing to do. He put all that pressure on his injured QB and they failed. You call that ballsy, fine. I call it dumb. Especially because it was totally unnecessary. And the kid turned in to catch the ball because of where it was thrown. It was a bad call all the way around.
Nobody in Waco is feeling better about Aranda and the team now that they’re 0-1 with a “ballsy” coach. In reality, it a bad start to a must win season.
