Met him years ago when he was AD and I was in law school at UH.

Bill was a very intelligent guy and a hard worker. It was his misfortune being our AD at the time the Cougars were stabbed in the back by the T-sips, Aggies, and Texas’ alcoholic lieutenant governor, who was an alum of both Tech and Baylor, when the Big12 was formed. (Bill and the rest of the UH administration was completely blindsided by such perfidy.)

One especially interesting thing I recall about Bill was his fascination with the HLS&R, in particular the broad volunteer committee participation and the big attendance by people who clearly weren’t agriculturalists. He wanted UH to have a much bigger presence in the whole rodeo scene and attract rodeogoers to UH athletics. Turned out that not too many cowboys had ever heard of CUSA.
