Bill introduced to dissolve NCAA the morning after MFF championship game

OMG!!!

Talk about SOUR GRAPES from the Gonzaga constituency!!!

They really want federal tax dollars being used to create a federal government agency to run college athletics because they couldn’t make it past the second round, and the four best teams did?

REALLY???

Hey listen, I hope that this doesn’t cross over into prohibited political talk, but really. Good grief.

So we’re one of the “major programs with huge NIL budgets?” I understand Florida and Duke but neither Houston nor Auburn have won a title. Auburn is only in its second final four. We’re number 1 seeds because we earned it vs system teams like kansas and kentucky. This is going nowhere.

I think our NIL budget is bigger than people on here give it credit for…

Look at our roster for next season…

On the one hand, the NCAA is such an ineffective institution, I am glad someone is proposing an alternate governing body.

On the other hand, when was the last time our government–under any administration–solved anything?

This is why no p2 breakaway happens. The gov would get involved bc you’d have all the teams left out suing.

This is an ex of it and the sec commish said it’s one of many reasons a breakaway wouldn’t happen bc of the fear of lawsuits.

We have a top 10 NIL budget in basketball. Idk why people keep acting like we are some sort of underdog in basketball. Lol

And we are absolutely a major program.

Where does that money come from? I know the city provides more natural “true” nil opportunities than most college towns but just to say “yeah here’s a million” to 10 players? We don’t even have full b12 shares until next year. I figured TF was taking a step back with all the Italy ambassador stuff.

Not sure about NIL, but I know our budget is NOWHERE near the top. Middle of the pack. See here.

And our NIL collective is certainly NOT Top 10, though I’ll allow that NIL can’t all be accounted for there.

I didn’t read this article but read another one. We need federal intervention on what is going on with the NCAA, but this is not it.

The NCAA needs to be able to set some parameters without some backwater judge overruling NCAA regulations., e.g., years of eligibility regarding JC or NAIA transfers, NIL regulations, or other areas. We don’t want or need 50 sets of regulations.

This may be one of the most racist and sexist bills ever presented. Why should football and men’s basketball players be forced to share their NIL money with others? Or for that matter, why should Caitlin Clark share her money with some third string OL on the Hawkeye football team? NIL money is the money of the athlete and has nothing to do with the school. No way the S Court would be okay with this.

Anyone still doubting what this is all about is living in a dream world.

If you don’t like the way college sports are done, then the solution is to get rid of college sports. College athletes are not here for the entertainment of old people.

It would also require that conferences include only schools located in a single time zone

Under Baumgartner’s idea, Arizona schools would be screwed since the state has its own time zone.

Even if you killed daylight savings, what conference would Hawai’i be in?

The only P4 (football) P5 (Basketball) conference in a single timezone is the ACC.

That’s what I though but no one could confirm….thank you.

How is that possible. SMU - CDT

Plus I left out Cal Bears-- PT

True. But if Cal, Stanford, and SMU left the ACC, would the rest of the ACC really care?

I must have missed the Subject matter Fred. I just saw where you said the ACC was only in ONE time zone. Not who should be there, etc . Must have been more to the story. My bad.

The ACC is NOT!

Ever heard of SMU and Califord?

Ryon, keep reading the thread. We discussed it.
