Bill proposes to transfer UHV-Victoria to Texas A&M system

The greedy gets greedier. And we thought UT was satan.

To be honest, I’m not sure that UH-V has ever truly identified itself that closely with UH.

Always seemed like an oddball in the mix.

Hot Stove League, college edition!

I’m ok with giving up UH-V, but what do we get in return?

Besides the PUF $$$, not sure there’s much I’d want. Prairie View, TAMUCC and the nursing program seem like the most attractive options.

How does University of Houston Corpus Christi sound?

Let’s just sell UH-V for a share of the PUF.

Did they ask UHV students and alum? I might be kinda ticked if the name on my degree no longer matches a named university, especially with how Ai weeds out resumes today.

If we are forced to do this then the price should be $100 million to cover what we invested . No free lunch!

All funds available to UH-V become immediately available to Texas A&M-Victoria… there it is…

They wouldn’t propose this bill unless the staff at UH-V asked them to, right?

About 15 years ago there was somewhat of a coup at UH-V where they tried to join the a&m system. Thought that had been pasified a while ago.

Are they wanting a football team?

True. At that time, UHV had a significant number of students in FT Bend that was seen as giving TAMU entry to the Houston market. That was taken away with UH starting a Ft Bend. Campus. Also aggies in Victoria as I recall had land they wanted developed by the school but as an A&M campus. UH also moved their nursing program to UH before starting another at a later time for Victoria. As for whether UHV staff want the change I don’t know but you can be sure that if that campuses leadership is supporting the change they won’t have there jobs for long unless the campus is moved to TAMU.

The UH system would be down to only
3 institutions if this goes thru. 2023 enrollment was 3,700 students with 27,000 alumni. I’d be against this dismantling of UHS just because
it seems to be driven by politics and it harms
UH overall. There very well may be valid
reasons for all this , but I haven’t heard them.

That’s where I’m at. If there isn’t a compelling reason for this, it shouldn’t happen. But I’m all ears.

It was weird that they were ever in our system in the first place. It’s whatever.

I know and they are 100 miles from Sugar Land. It may have been more logical to add Sam Houston State to our system instead.

On one hand, Texas has too many university systems. It’s a bit crazy with all the duplication
of boards and admins.

OTOH, I don’t like the idea of UHS being
cannibalized. It makes us vulnerable to
a takeover in the future, if the strategy of improving higher education efficiency ever comes into vogue.

So I think we should hold onto UHV and maybe look at adding SHSU to UHS.

Would SHSU want to join the UH system?

SHSU is in the Texas State University System.
