Bipartisan sports Bill limits per Dan Murphy @ ESPN

A guy I know involved in the college sports business said the bill will go down in courts.

That tracks
for the same reason the NCAA has no teeth to govern college sports.

Schools that want to do what they want, sue when they don’t get their way, even if it is directly opposed to the “rules” that they originally agreed upon.

He said until there is collective bargaining with players, it will remain the Wild West. He foresees the entire college football world crumbling

Highly doubt this

College football is dead but this pro sports affiliation league needs real rules and a salary cap.

Uncontrolled capitalism is hell. You have to have government intervention in certain cases to keep capitalism palatable. Theodore Roosevelt busted up the big oil monopoly that was called standard oil I believe. He investigated the meat packing companies that were selling chicken etc thrown on dirty floors and tables then sold. He settled the cold miner’s strike and got them fair wages and an 8 hr work day. He got rid of children working and harsh working conditions. Government has to intervene when capitalism is out of line. I love capitalism but I don’t want unrestricted capitalism which would crush most people. The Fair labors standard act helped bring normal hrs and conditions at work places.

That is exactly why the SWC and PAC12 should have never been allowed to be exterminated by the ncaa uta, atm, USC and espn.
Make no mistakes about it.
99% of the members schools are public schools. They are not franchises.
The ncaa only answers to the schools mentioned above and other blue bloods.
They became blue bloods by buying players, the very best players. The ncaa looked the other way and if one outsider wanted, dared to do the same the ncaa immediately came down on them.

Congress wants to really solve this? Cut the bs and go straight to the jugular

  1. Geographical conferences with local schools are reastablished. This includes the SWC, PAC12 and BIG EAST.
  2. Schools can’t move to another conference or Federal money will be cut off to them.
  3. Schools are allowed to spend as much money as they want. This was the case prior to this. If you do not agree with this you are in denial
  4. The ncaa is immediately disolved and replaced by a team of all FBS DIV I commissioners with a President representing one FBS DIV I conference elected to a two years term
  5. Cfp, march madness goes to the highest bidder. All money is equally distributed to all schools. One does not get more than another

In a perfect college football world, thats what we do, 92010. In out FB world, we just have to hope that at least some guardrails are put in and enforced, so everyone knows what to do and not do.

In an out FB world we know what the p2’s want to impose on all college football fans. Their brand and ef everyone else.
They do that? They will be sued and they would have killed the golden goose. The sec and big10 think they can control college football fans because they believe sheep will follow. I can tell you that if they proceed with this I won’t be watching college football anymore. How many others feel the same way? Plenty. This is why this seismic shift has not happened yet.

I think we agree actually. There is no question that its the SEC that is really pushing this; I don’t think the BIG cares because it knows that its alumni base has more than enough money to fund NILs. I mean compare the average UCLA, USC, Maryland, Michigan and OSU grad with the typical UF, Bama, LSU, and Tennessee grad, and you will see exactly why the SEC is pushing this.

These SEC schools cannot compete and a level playing field. This is why they are literally threatening to breakaway completely and to just play each other. That was the dead giveaway as to what this is really all about. I was listening to the Finebaum show and he was interviewing the SEC commissioner, and all that dude did for an hour was complain about the lack of rules and kept referring back to the House Settlement and how the schools aren’t following the rules. His continued repeating of this talking point was another giveaway. You only care about that issue if you know that your schools don’t have the money to compete in the current landscape.

This make too much sense to ever become the law bud, but I give you an A for effort.

I dont think the BIG wants to do something like that. I would much rather be the BIG, ACC, Big 12, Notre Dame and thats our group and the SEC are by themselves. If they do break away, theyll live to regret it
Its not like we need em
We dont.

As long as the B1G and SEC oppose the Protect College Sports Act, this bill isn’t going anywhere.

I wonder what their proposed revisions are.

I guess the P4 can not become a super league. Darn!

Ya know, that would suck insofar as we couldn’t potentially add any more schools that would add value.

BUT
OTOH
it would do two things:

  1. It should make us eternally grateful to our local TX pols that forced the Big 12 to take us when they did. It looks like this might create a “forever” block on any other schools ascending to the P4. If so, then we should be glad that we made the final cut!

  2. It would seem to block the possibility of a “Breakaway P2,” which, to me, would be the single biggest threat to our status as a “power” conference athletics program.
