Bleacher gate was truly embarrassing and really a dumb way to get more people into the stadium.
If that had happened to us in a road game I’m sure we would have all been irate too
Everybody knows that Bleachergate was 100% the fault of the UH admin. The problem isnt about being mad at Bleachergate, the problem is that Dodds used that as an excuse to never play UH in anything, something he apparently wanted to do anyway
Frankly I could care less if we ever play them again in anything.
And he was right in doing so since we totally screwed it up. UT was the only team willing to play us post SWC and we spit in their eye.
I’ve cut off contact with contractors, employees, and women I’ve dated for less egregious reasons.
Nah. They weren’t playing us as any kind of favor - they were doing it because they thought it was in their best interests to do it. This “willing to play us” BS is pathetic. That’s not at all how it went.
Not correct. Texas Tech.
That was after bleachergate by about 8 years. Immediately after the SWC ended only UT would play us.
Who else in the big 11 was willing to play us after the swc broke up. So, yes. That’s how it went.
Tech? Oklahoma St?
You’re characterizing it as a “favor” - simply not true, no matter how many times you type it. That’s 100% a UT fan perspective, which you’re free to believe, but don’t try to sell that garbage here.
Doesn’t need to be bought, or sold, the facts is the facts. UT played us and no former swc member in the big 12 did until much later.
Tech not until around 2008. Ok st wasn’t in the swc
Reread your comment you said big 11. Anyway you act like UT did us a favor by scheduling us. When in reality they signed us to a 2-1 agreement to collect three easy wins when we were at our absolute worst. They definitely got more out of that deal than we did.
Edit: also at least Tech scheduled us straight up. H&H.
Big 11 was a typo that anyone within reason can determine was 12.
What’s your point? UT scheduled us when no one else would. Whether for an easy win or not, it was our chance to make some money. That was the plan with the bleachers since there definitely weren’t there to for UH fans.
UT playing us for whatever reason was still more than other former swc members in the big 12.
It took Tech over a decade to schedule us again. And even though it filled up Robertson, imagine the money a continued series, even as patsies, bleachergste cost us.
Instead we played as patsies away at Michigan etc.
Right and Oklahoma St was and still is part of the Big 12. Hence why I mentioned them.
As for the rest of your post, “our chance to make some money”? Just sad. We didn’t lose out on much there.
Again though Tech deserves more respect for scheduling us after we started winning again (and doing it straight up) then UT does for scheduling us to a lopsided agreement when we were in the dumps.
Exactly. Sad that we screwed an opportunity to charge for parking and concessions and tickets. Especially during a period when dollars were definitely in short supply for the athletics program.
As far as more credit to tech? Meh, if you want to give them more credit for signing a contract when we started showing a pulse, fair enough. Although I disagree. But doesn’t make much difference.
The good news is UT is now the SEC’s problem.
Those cowbells are pretty annoying, but not as bad as the men’s restrooms where you just peed straight on the floor and little piss rivers were cut into the concrete to move the product downhill. I’m sure they’ve “upgraded” that now, but that memory is almost as vivid as Case shutting down the cowbells. ![]()
You’re saying they sold it?
Have you been to Starkville? I’d say it’s possible.
