Just as an aside, John Wilson was a feature columnist for the Chronicle that covered the SWC. A week after publishing that article he was no longer covering the SWC and a couple of weeks later he was no longer with the Chronicle.
Iâm sure that was just a coincidence.

We could use about 50-100k T shirt fans. If they show up to the games, watch the games on tv, buy merch and concessions, then that would help us tremendously. We gotta stop with the snooty attitude about t shirt fans and start welcoming them on the bandwagon
It wasnât a comment about t-shirt fans. It was a comment about media loyalty.
Who said we are restricted to only hating one school? Right now I have UT and Bu on my hate list and am prepared to hate Utah.
I pull for 4 teams:
UH
LSU
Whoever is playing UT
Whoever is playing LSU
But my support of LSU doesnât even come close my support of UH.
Oh absolutely! Thanks to their obnoxious condescending attitude, i am learning to hate Utah very quicklyâŠGlad we play them and have a chance to beat em this yearâŠ
I am not there yet with Utah. If Utah fills that role fine, but I do not have enough experience with them to consider them the bad guys. Early returns though tell me they are on the right track. The team I love for UH to beat is Baylor. They rode UTâs coattails and Ann Richardsâ influence to get into the B12. No one will ever convince me that Baylor was a better selection than UH. There is a hypocrisy at Baylor with their pious values and lack of ethical conduct (Dave Bliss, Art Briles) that make me want UH to beat the pants out of Baylor.
A very small % of students at satellite universities (including UT) get involved to any degree in the athletics of the main university. UT Houston would be like UTSA, UT Arlington, UTEP, etc.
UH Clear Lake, UH Sugarland, etc. are the same way relative to UH Cougars.
The teams I care about now and going forward are the 16 teams in Big12 this season⊠The better they are, the more UH wins against those B12 teams count toward us going to the CFP.
This demonstrates that Mike is a decent, honorable person. Never let your heart be constricted by paradigms. Always keep an open mind.
If the Blue Cougs hate Utah thatâs plenty for me. Iâve never disliked BYU. Every BYU grad (and fan) Iâve known well has been a nice person.
Thatâs not it. Itâs "You canât always get what you want but if you try sometime, you just might find you get what you need!!! OH Yeah
Ann Richards had next to nothing to do with Baylor getting in the Big 12. The key player was Bob Bullock, who was alerted to Baylor originally not getting in by state senator and BU alum David Sibley. Tech had the speaker of the Texas House, Pete Laney, and influential state senator, John Montford. Those were the politicians who got Tech and BU in when UT and A&M were going alone.
Thanks for the clarification. I used Ann Richards as short hand to avoid going in to all the details and characters. Goes to show you how political everything was, and still is.
I knew Bonghorn U was a shady organization, but i didnât know it was that corrupt! Not only it has been taking most of the stateâs money for higher education in a shady way for decades, but it has also actively seeking to undermine UHâs ability to compete in both the athletic and academic spheres for years! To me this makes every UTâs achievement in athletics and academics tainted and ill-gotten! It is absolutely criminal that the state continues to allow its own flagship institution to behave in such a way as to undermine its other institutions!
They may not have any interest in us as far as well wishes, but in trying to undermine our ability to grow, prosper, and to compete with them the Bonghorns have lots of interests in us! Example: That land that they bought in Houston to try to siphon what little money the state has allotted to us by opening a new UT campus close to the UH campus so that the state would pour the money allotted to UH to their new campus instead of the UH campus!
Another example is the dirty tricks they pulled as stated in the article from above to get the NCAA to punish us so that we would lose our star players, our bowl eligibility, and TV appearances so that we would be hurt in the recruiting, exposure, and monetary compensation departments! Like they say - absolute power corrupts absolutely! And UT has had absolute power over UH for far too long! Using dirty political schemes, of course!
Letâs not forget Deloss Dodds- Living proof a scumbag in $2000.00 suit is still a scumbag.
Hell, Dodds practically ran the NCAA enforcement division.
I remember DD saying something to the effect that âWe (UT) will never play Houston again until they have their own stadium that seats 65,000 and has all the things we expect.â What a sweetheart !
Go Coogs !
Yeah that UT-Houston campus wouldâve been extremely bad news for UH.
Very happy that UH were able to prevent that from happening.
This just means youâre spiritually impure. Not a problem. This can be overcome with introspection.
Dodds was so upset after bleachergate, you could have stopped at ââŠwill never play Houston againâŠâ
