Bowser invited to Combine

Linebackers did the bench Saturday. I can’t find any numbers posted yet. Bowser should get the rest of his numbers today. Not sure why any of our fans would say Bowser will probably go 4th to 6th round. Why not at least wait until he gets his numbers? He definitely has NFL size so let’s how the other numbers add up.

Bowser got up 21 reps. Tied for 8th out of the 22 LBs who did it.

Extrapolating his numbers if he had maintained that pace over a full 13 games, Bowser would have finished the season with 76 tackles, 19½ tackles for losses and 14 sacks. Bowser was ultra-productive despite being utilized heavily in pass coverage on third downs as he operated as more of a classic 4-3 outside linebacker after playing defensive end earlier in his career.

Bowser looks so smooth compared to the rest

Tyus Bowser, Houston: Is this another name to remember for Round 1? Perhaps. Bare minimum, Bowser is a rock solid Day 2 prospect. The 6’ 3”, 247-pounder cranked out a 4.65-second 40, plus a 37.5” vertical and a 10’ 7” broad jump. Those linebacker footwork/coverage drills allowed him to show off a bit, too, because he just appeared so dang comfortable performing in them. He can drop and take on tight ends, which only adds to his value as an edge defender.

The scoop: “Scouts tend to grade the tape and the person, but a lot of coaches push hard for traits and players who aren’t close to being maxed out. Once coaches get involved in the process, they get really excited about these freaky guys like Tyus Bowser (OLB, Houston) and Adam Shaheen (TE, Ashland) and those are the guys who come off the board earlier than you expect. They might both go inside the top 40.” – NFC executive

The skinny: I’ve heard a lot of buzz in NFL circles about teams “racing” to draft Shaheen since it is so rare to find a tight end with his size, athleticism and separation quickness. Shaheen played against a lower level of competition in college, but he clearly has plenty of growth potential as a player. Bowser is an explosive athlete who is a projection-based prospect. He has been receiving steady buzz since Senior Bowl week. With his ability to move in space and teams coveting explosive edge-bending rushers, Bowser’s move up the draft board is not a surprise.
