It really doesn’t matter if he enrolls early or not anymore. The spring transfer window is gone. If he signs in December, I think Carlisle and weigman are gone
Not as far as I know. I’m assuming he’ll report June 1st along with the other incoming freshmen.
If he came in spring then I could see a viable path for him to be able to compete and possibly pass up CW but with just 4/5 weeks of fall camp I just don’t see that happening. If we’re a serious program then we got to ensure there’s a seasoned QB on the roster (whether that’s CW or a transfer-in). A true freshman as QB1 and redshirt freshman as QB2 is a recipe for disaster.
And you’ll be wrong
So CW is going to willing to compete for QB1 his final year of eligibility?
Do you see where the issue comes in for him?
And if that happens that would set the program back. A good program would be able to enter next fall camp with all 3.
That’s culture
“Hot takes” especially on moot points are addictive to those who crave constant attention.
If CW is scared of a freshman passing him up (I don’t think he is in the slightest) then he’s not ready for the next level anyways.
Again
CW is going to voluntarily agree to compete for QB1 in his final year of eligibility?
If I CW and Fritz tells me that he isn’t redshirting Keisean, then to hell with wasting my final year possibly riding bench. I’m transferring to improve my draft odds one last time.
Are you suggesting that Keisean isn’t going to be able to compete for QB1?
Okay… so redshirt if he loses the competition right?
Well… what if KH ends up winning the competition for QB1?
Is that a risk CW is willing to take? If CW is THAT good, then why aren’t SEC schools or other P4 already offering him QB1 jobs as we speak like they are with Sam Leavitt?
I’m not saying Weigman is bad. He’s not a bad QB. He’s good enough to win games, but if our defense was not good this season, we would be at 4-5 wins. I would also give major credit to Sanchez.
Do you know that for a fact?
Not every QB goes and whores himself out to other teams in the middle of his team’s season. In fact, most don’t do that.
You’re just really grasping at straws.
CW is unlikely to lose the starting job to a kid with 4 weeks of college practice under his belt, barring a health issue. There’s no reason for him to entertain going elsewhere.
The “I don’t think he is in the slightest” is referring to CW not being afraid of a freshman passing him up in a fall camp competition. I think that clarification should answer your other questions.
By that standard, then how are 2 or 3 star QBs getting recruited?
I mean hell… if the number one overall recruit in the country isn’t good enough to compete with a Big 12 senior, then hell…
All those 2 and 3 stars should just go play intermural to get playing time
Quinn ewers redshirt behind cj Stroud, who went #2 overall in the NFL draft. He still felt he should’ve played, and transferred to texas.
Texas and ohio state recruit a bunch of 5* guys all the time and field teams that are always in the mix for the national championship. They can lose 5* guys and replace them without missing a beat.
We recruited three 4* guys and we felt like we were on top of the world. They all transferred out after producing nothing here. If we’re recruiting the #1 overall player in a class, why are we doing it if not to maximize the amount of playing time we’re giving him? Because we don’t get 5* guys all the time. Hell, we can’t keep the 4* guys we sign.
My personal opinion is that weigman will read between the lines and see what jobs are open that won’t require so much competition. He used to be that 5* guy. And he’ll understand that we’re probably not recruiting the #1 overall guy just to watch him turn around and transfer out the next year cuz we made him wait his turn. Just my opinion
KH isn’t just a freshman
He is a recruit that is getting major offers from the elites and is voluntarily choosing UH.
CW was not getting major offers from the elites when he was in the portal. Out of High School? Yes. In the portal? No.
Thank you.
You’re welcome. I don’t say any of this as a diss of Conner weigman, but as an acknowledgement of college football in 2025.
Conners exceeded my expectations and this team has been lots of fun to root for. But to just blindly expect him to stick around when we have the clear cut anointed one coming in is foolish
Weigman isn’t going to transfer. He’ll go pro or he’ll stay and ball out. Tbc the Henderson kid doesn’t have to red shirt. It’s just an option he’ll have.
I also think he will try and go pro.
He will get a practice squad spot at the very least.
KH ain’t redshirting. We don’t have the leverage to ask him to redshirt.
CW is also not risking his final year of eligibility to compete.
Either way, we’ll be in good shape. Coach has put us in a very good position for next year and beyond.
