Absolutely.
If KH was going to those other âeliteâ programs he wouldnât be guaranteed to start there either if there was an already established starter on the roster. Longstreet has played in garbage for 4 games at USC. Russell has played in 1 game in garbage time for Alabama. St. Clair has played in 1 game in garbage time for Ohio State. All QBs from the 25 class who are rated equally or higher than KH.
At the end of the day, KH will still be a 18yr old with no college experience. Do not confuse KHâs potential with reality of where he is in his development versus where CW is in his development.
Not sure bringing up the failures of the previous regime that allowed the program to fall into disrepair bolsters your point.
Weigman was not the cause of the WVU loss. The loss for that game begins with the defense.
I think his timely turnovers were pretty significant in that game.
And even if you want to pin it on him, itâs ONE GAME. This dude has led the team to 8 wins with a thin RB corps, a subpar OL, and his best WR hurt. Yet somehow heâs not as good as a dude who has never worked against a real defense? ![]()

Good coaches donât care about recruiting rankings when making a depth chart. Period.
They only time they care is when talking to boosters or recruits, because it can help improve the perception of the program
Some of you forget two fundamental points.
Who recruited Keisean?
HCWF
Why did Keisean choose U of H?
HCWF
Clearly HCWF has developed a relationship with Keisean and his family. What ever HCWF decides who will start is who deserves the starting job.
Please stop making assumptions that he will start. What is best for UH is what we will get.
Austin is interesting case. Personally I see a McCaffrey type of a player. He has all the tools to be the same type of player. NFL teams are looking and need these types of players. It brings an X factor to their offense and is a nightmare to defend against. At the end of the day it is up to Mr. Carlisle. The next few months and the opening of the transfer portal will us what is ahead for Austin.
I agree that KH wouldnât be a guaranteed starter at an elite school because elite schools already have 4 and 5 star QBs. KH would already have the expectation of waiting in line at an elite/blue blood program. Thatâs why they are blue bloods, because the top athletes are willing to redshirt at these programs.
UH is not a blue blood.
UH does not get 4 and 5 star high school recruit QBs. Therefore, those that do commit to UH expect to be starters, or in this case, compete for the starting job immediately.
Iâm not suggesting he will start (though i personally predict that he will be).
What Iâm saying is that redshirting Keisean doesnât make much sense if he can out-compete Conner Weigman (should Conner Weigman be willing to compete for QB1 in his final year of elgibility).
Weigman may start a few games, but Keisean will be the starter within 4 games. Weigmanâs interceptions have been a problem.
If we end up winning 10 games this year, the returning starter would have to be terrible to get benched leading into conference play.
During which 4 game stretch has CW been terrible? ![]()
Keisean will be here in January. He has full belief in himself being QB1 as a freshman.
I would be shocked if redshirting has even been a discussion.
It is interesting to see all the back in forth in absolutes.
This is big - hadnât seen that.
Itâs not that CW is terrible enough to get benched. Thatâs not whatâs being argued here.
What Iâm arguing is that Keisean, the #1 overall recruit in the country, may potentially be a better QB as a true freshman than Weigman is as a senior.
The issue you run into is that Weigman is likely looking to play on Sundays, and if Fritz is not going to redshirt Keisean Henderson (which there are no signs or indication that he is Redshirting) then Weigman may potentially get beaten for QB1 and thus waste his final year of elgibility thus hurting his NFL prospects.
Keisean Henderson is unseen potential. Weigman is a QB that is doing enough to win games, but he has flaws that are compensated by the UH defense.
Itâs not like Weigman is elite to the point that a QB is going to be willing to wait in line. Keisean is coming to UH expecting to compete for QB1. Otherwise, he could go to Ohio State and wait in line there behind a QB thatâs better than Weigman.
Thatâs not what youâve been arguing at all. Youâve been throwing out absolutes like dollar bills at the Ritz. ![]()
KH may be better, and he may win the job, or he may not win the job and he could redshirt. But none of that is going to make CW scared of the battle and force him to leave, especially if weâre coming off a 10-win season. No 5* player at any position enrolls early with an eye towards redshirting or being a backup, but it happens.
Regardless, there are too many variables and unknowns to make it even worth debating at this point.
Keisean is not going to Redshirt.
and if Keisean does NOT Redshirt, then Weigman is likely going to transfer somewhere where there is no competition. If not that, then he will either declare or hope to make a squad as an undrafted free agent.
Conner Weigman is going to be in his final year of elgibility.
You have to consider the reality of the position of Quarterback in College Football:
- The best QBs typically do not spend all 4 years in college. They play 2 or 3 years and then get drafted
- Senior/4 year+ QBs that are still competing for starting jobs typically have some type of flaw or dent in their careers, or they had to crawl from a low recruiting ranking to eventually becoming a top-tier QB (in CWâs case, he was a 5 star, highly ranked recruit that has shown consistency issues along with his various injury issues)
Keisean would have not commited to UH if he knew he was being redshirted. UH is not a program where a 5 star QB true freshman redshirts.
5 star QBs redshirt at school like Bama or Ohio State because the incumbent QB is likely just as highly regarded.
Weigman went from SEC to Big 12 (and had no major P4 offers while in the portal) which many would assume is a âdowngradeâ.
I had a few drinks last night and came in a little hotter than I would have otherwise. But yâall acting like itâs preposterous that Weigman might transfer out are delusional. I doubt Henderson has outright been guaranteed the starting spot, but heâs going to be given every opportunity to earn QB1. Weigman has already washed out at one school, is rebuilding his rep, and may find an opportunity with a bad QB situation where he wonât be really challenged for the starting spot (much like we were this last off-season).
I donât have a crystal ball, I donât know whatâs going to happen, but yâall have to realize that option is very much in play. Itâs just the life of a college football fan in 2025.
