I think you’re correct. Our current talent level is similar to what Yeoman had.
Navy isn’t a P4 team
Our Oline can’t drive anybody of the ball at 3rd and short. What makes any of you think we could drive block the veer with the guys we have? Believe it or not , I thought we should have put in a veer package for inside the 20 for Greg Ward.
Yes it was a way to exploit and confuse the opposition, but you still had to get guys off the LOS and stop penetration.
Do you know how many times we’ve fumbled not running the veer?
Changing offenses mid year is so incredibly insane it is not even worth considering. I would not put the coaches and players through that disaster waiting to happen.
Think UH was blown out last year against Kansas St.? Try changing offenses during the season. You ain’t seen nothing.
Yeoman did precisely that in 1965. His offensive line was smallish and couldn’t block well. It worked out pretty well for him. Just sayin…
Thank you. My point exactly. Our current line is just like Yeoman had back we he installed the veer… It’d work
The veer back then relied heavily on cut blocks, which were a huge equalizer for smaller teams in the trenches and are now illegal.
Can’t tackle if you’re on crutches!

The veer doesn’t really work anymore.
Navy ran the triple option offense up until about 2 years ago to make it work for the caliber of players. They finally gave up on that.
Army does it really well because their quarterback can actually pass a dart to a receiver when they opt to pass the ball 10 times a game. Still Army usually can’t hang with a big powerhouse team in the top 25.
You still have to have a QB that can throw the ball on the money when the opportunity comes.
It’s yet to be determined if Zeon can throw the ball “on the money”, but we all see his quickness and illusiveness as a runner. Some type of option offense would work best for him.
