If Fritz builds his style
of offense around the talent he has, why not go with the veer or option running attack with Zeon? Those of you old enough to remember the veer under CBY have got to be thinking the same thing. Zeon looks like an electric runner, but has an iffy arm. CBY came up with the veer when he had similar talent. I think Zeon could be special in the right offense.
exactly!!!
The veer faded by the 1980s (Old Coogs, that was 40 years ago stop being in denial) for a reason.
However, Fritz ran Spread Option/Triple Option hybrid at Tulane, Sam, and Georgia Southern.
Triple option will work for sure with Zeon. Few teams would be able to defend it
But can you implement it in a week?
Bring back scoring points.
Doubtful, but you have to start somewhere. If Fritz goes all in with Zeon, changing to an option running attack is the only way. If we start now, we could be pretty good by the last few games of the season
Good response.
I’m not sure there are any P4 teams running the option. But we seem to have talent for it.
When Nebraska was the only team doing it they could not be stopped.
We are not limited like the Acadamies in freshman size. We can put in 320 pounders immediately.
If we could do something that incorporated shotgun and more passing from the triple option, that would be great.
Since virtually no one runs an Option Offense The Houston Veer might work. No one practices against it.
However we also have not practiced it. Thus impossible to run this season on a regular basis.
We could practice running it on third down and fourth down plays when we need just a few yards to make.
This. I was hoping to see an offense like the ones he ran at those schools. Tulane being the exception in that it was close to what he’s running at UH. Chris’s would be a great fit for running that type of offense.
There aren’t any P4 teams that run the option as their primary offense because it makes it nigh on impossible to recruit, but nearly every team in the country with a QB that’s even a little bit mobile incorporates it in their offense to some extent. The big issue for our offense, though, is that nobody’s really shown the ability to win a 1-on-1 matchup against P4-level competition, and there’s not an offense that makes that go away.
Yeah, Georgia Tech was the last P4 who ran the triple option. It had middling success with the occasional 10-12 win season which would be great around here after everything we been through.
Run the option this year. Can’t throw the ball long so just milk the clock and hope defense can score.
Yall know how many times we fumbled when running the veer?
Implementing the veer or triple option for the fifth game of the year? This is taking a toll on all of us, but come on guys.
You need 6’2" 300# drive blockers and I don’t see a single one on this roster. Not even close.
Navy?
Can’t believe in this day and age you can’t find a D1 qb that can throw. Wtf we doing.
There are QBs at D2 level that can throw night and day better than smith and Chriss. It’s a sad reality for our QB room.
Here I am thinking the reason UH switched to the veer is because our OL was not that great at blocking so CBY switched to optioning them instead of blocking . . . . . with smaller OL.
