Ok Coogs , if we are so NIL contract oriented why can’t we put buyout on our players? Fair is fair, right ?
Go Coogs !
Great point Glenn…but that still won’t stop the big dawgs from getting their targets.
Yes,but it might slow the process down if you view the NIL as a perfected contract that is being broken .We all know what happens when a company breaks a contract . Lawsuit .
That would only put us at a bigger disadvantage to the other schools when they aren’t demanding that. Kids worth the money have options, and will assuredly go elsewhere.
You’re not understanding what NIL is. How is a car deslership going to enforce making the player whose image they are licensing to stay at a certain school. Sure they could write it in the contract but what fool student would sign it.
Yep… The contract is to the PERSON’S NAME, IMAGE AND LIKENESS… Not their school/team…
When an NFL free agent goes from Houston to Pittsburgh they don’ t lose their existing contracts unless that was stipulated…
I suppose the businesses paying the $ in the contract could write that in… But idk if that breaks any rules…
I’m guessing those deals are largely year by year.
You can do that. You can do whatever you want with the nil contract. There is not a standard boiler plate contract that everyone signs, they can do what ever they want.
Kyle,
Sooner or later NIL contracts might have a clause of payback of some or all of the contract amount if you break the contract . I think UH needs to tell the NIL Business owner to do this via our lawyers.
Something has got to give in this process and I think this is a starting point .
I think it will normalize and we’ll be in the top 1/3 of NIL programs just due to the size of Houston and alumni owned businesses in Houston.
The companies involved in NIL contracts are solely responsible for these contracts. I doubt that “savvy” business people would be foolish enough to expose themselves.
If we want transfer fees like an European soccer league, we should have promotion/relegation like an European soccer league.
Idk but it’s all becoming so ridiculous. I have no issue following other varsity sports if this thing gets out of hand. Hockey is cool. Basketball obviously. Rugby is a great sport as well.
This seems like a good idea. Asking for payback when players decide to leave after accepting NIL deals from us.
the fool who wants the money
I pity the fool
But at least our school would get a nice chunk of change for all the grief caused by the exiting player and the school that bribes him!
I am all for that kind of transaction friend. Will see it then I’ll believe it.
I love it.
Just wait til NIL collectives start trading players. I’m telling you…the NIL opened Pandora’s box. And if you don’t think some BMDs are trying to figure out how to contractually lock players into multi-year deals then you’d be wrong.
NIL collectives are not run by the university nor are they funded by the university and they do not fund the university…how is it that people still do not understand this
