BYU or TT loss

SEC - 4
B1G - 3
Big12 - 2
ACC - 2
Highest Ranked Group of 5 - 1

Then there’s ND.

Conf Championship Games could throw everything into a tailspin.

Let’s Win the Bye Week.

By that, I mean, let’s watch other contenders ELIMINATE themselves.

ND will be favored in its three remaining games and if they win out would get in over a third Big 12 team because of the eyeballs they draw.

Agreed.

Unfortunately, I believe you’re right.

Somehow, Shiel Wood has managed to take what he did here with us, but with access to better players by way of greater, more competitive NIL, and is the sole reason TxTech can legitimately make the Playoffs.

I’m hoping they get MASSACRED by whatever team they get matched up against, idec if that diminishes the Big 12’s prestiege, I just don’t want to see Tech win the natty.

Yep. Wood is the key to success for TT. If Wood ever leaves, TT will go back to mediocrity.

Looking at the remaining SEC & Big 10 schedules, I think we could miss the Big 12 CCG & still grab that last at-large spot. We just need to win out & Utah has to lose one more game. If we do that & the favorites in the SEC/Big 10 win out, we’ll have a very strong case to be ranked #11 at the end of the season

*Edit: I forgot about Notre Dame :man_facepalming:t5: That would screw us. In that case, BYU would have to drop another game (or two)

And ND has three straight cupcakes to finish the season.

It’s infuriating. They lose to the 7th best team in a bad ACC & nobody blinks an eye. We lose to WVU on the heels of Coach Hester’s passing & suddenly, we’re the worst 2 loss team anyone has ever seen. It’s almost as if we didn’t go into Tempe & stomp out the defending Big 12 Champs the week after they beat TTU, who could be ranked as high as #5 in the new CFP poll. Double standards man

No I think that TT’s extraordinarily high NIL funding is the key to their success…and if that continues, they will be top dog in the Big 12.

This is the type of well-conceived rhetoric that elevates the board.

Agree on Wood. I would go so far as to say any team in the B12 that keeps a great DC stays relevant. We have a lot of bend not break defenses in the conference. But none are as good as Tech’s LB corps. And great DCs always do a good job with their LBs.

The NIL will definitely keep them in the top tier but they’ll need more than talent to make the playoffs every year. If they lose Wood, they’ll go back to having to outscore opponents like they did in the past. Aside from bringing in talent, they ascended to the top because they hired the OC from Texas State and Wood from Houston.

How long will this be sustained?

That’s the question

This is a very detailed answer to your question;

There’s a new sheriff in town. All seriousness hopefully Campbell can get that act passed , he’,s absolutely correct about B1G and SEC their out to monopolize CFB, with means revenue.crying crocodile tears about TT or anyone else who want to use big money donors to compete for top talent, likes it’s their God given right only to have

I would imagine they’ll empty the bank as long as there’s a shot that they could get invited to the SEC or B10.

Yes, and if they have a couple of oil & gas billionaires (as reported) who have a combined net worth of say $6-8 billion, then a 10% annual return on just those two (2) guys investments alone would generate about $600-800 million a year.

And so, for example, if they are Christians and believe in tithing, then those 2 along might be giving a combined $60-80 million a year to charitable causes. So a large part of it could be going to a couple of churches in Lubbock; or maybe a large part of it could be going toward funding the TT athletics program.

And of course, I’m sure that TT has many other very wealthy donors - like attorney Mark Lanier who’s been extremely successful and is a well regarded Bible study teacher at Champion Forest Baptist Church right here in Houston. IIRC, his father is/was a Baptist minister.

So my point is that sustaining a $40-50 million/year player payroll for the TT FB team for the next 10+ years is likely not much of a problem.

What surprised me most about this latest article about Campbell (his head should be growing by the minute) is just how many wealthy donors Tech actually has. It’d impressive.
