Do we think this is someone who can lay the foundation for a successful Big 12 program? Last I checked he was coaching some XFL type team and doing play by play.

I heard Stoops the other day saying today’s college football isn’t for him and that he’s glad he wasn’t around for NIL and the portal so I doubt it

I just can’t help think about the success that Mack Brown has had at North Carolina and what he’s done to elevate that program when many thought he was done after Texas.

Very different circumstances though. Mack was basically shown the door at Texas and forced out. Stoops was promoted up and out with a golden parachute by OU.

Stoops had OU playing at a top 10 level for a long time at a blue blood that had 80k+ screaming fans every game. We struggle to get 30K in the stadium even in the good times. Don’t see it. Not even close. If he did come back I’m sure we’d have an awesome offense and be an 8-9 win type team in the Big 12 within 2 years. Not happening though.

True but it was only so that they wouldn’t lose out on making sure Lincoln would be their HC for years to come. They thought they had another Stoops with Lincoln and turns out he wasn’t.
Lots of coaches that have been at UH recently talk about not needing to leave Houston to recruit. I think Stoops and his staff would be the few who would actually be able to do it effectively especially now in the Big 12.
We need go stop with this mentality

Sure but he gets to live comfortably as an administrator with little actually to do at a place where he’s revered. He’s basically doing the Barry Alvarez and Tom Osborne but without actually any duties of being an AD. He’s not giving that up to come fix our mess.
@CoogB with Mack he was a former head coach at North Carolina. Probably enjoyed living there.
Stoops, i looked at his resume. He has no ties to Houston
(College ball at Iowa. Then K State, Florida, Oklahoma as a coach )
Our next coach will likely come from the AAC in my personal opinion. Jeff Trailor probably still high up on Coogs list
