Can UH football have a “Waffle House” culture?

Gang,

I’ve read that it is a custom for SEC and ACC football fans to gather at local Waffle Houses for breakfast on gameday.

I realize that there are only so many of those restaurants in our city, but could something similar be done in Houston for UH games?

Perhaps at some other restaurant, etc?

Remember half the fans are coming from other area so There’s the nostalgia factor at play

I graduated from UH when it was a commuter school (still is btw but who gives a rat’s ass if people think it is) so my friends and I go through the McDonald’s drive through for breakfast on game day. Before heading home to watch home games on TV.

We’re at a distinct disadvantage compared to the state of Mississippi. To demonstrate, take a look at all the WH’s in southern Mississippi:

I noticed this on a drive along US 90 through Mississippi some years ago. There are 15 WH’s on US 90 between Waveland, MS and Pascagoula, MS. That’s a distance of 54 miles…or an average distance of less than 4 miles between WH’s.

There were places on that road trip where you could see from one WH to the next one on the horizon.

We just can’t compete with that level of…saturation?

Waffle House food sucks btw, there are many better breakfasts in Houston, lupe tortilla, kellys even cracker barrel

I know.

But the other day, when it was 10:40pm, and very little else was open, that “All-Star Special” was decent “comfort” food!

Who can reject hash browns scattered, topped, and covered?

But they are not open 24 hours like the Waffle House.

You can still pig out for $10 & unless there is violence or vomit, they could care less if you are stinking drunk.

See Value Dollar Menu

There is one in my neighborhood (Clearwater, FL- Sunset and US 19) that is rocking and rolling 247.

It varies per location but the biscuit gravy is awesome at the one by me.

I reject hash browns 24/7/365. I refuse to get any fast food breakfast combo because it includes hash browns - the honeydew melon of breakfast sides!

In thinking about this in a different way, consider that in some places where the SEC plays its games Waffle House is the fine dining option. I mean, not every D1 football town is as fortunate as Hattiesburg, which has a really nice Applebee’s.

Worst take I have ever see on Coogfans. Maybe because you are getting the fast food version. Waffle House hash browns are legit and many local mom and pop breakfast spots do them very well also. There aren’t too many things I will fight somebody about, but Waffle House hash browns are one of them!

I remember when my wife and i drove down to Florida from Michigan. We got to Georgia and there must have been a Waffle House at every exit on I-75 in the state. We laughed at if someone said “I’ll meet you at the Waffle House” and hung up, you’d never find them.

5 stars on this post… not because I agree (I like hashbrowns), but I admire your vehement commitment to the cause.

That is elite company right there because there have been MANY historically bad takes on this site. To be the worst says a lot, so thank you!

What can I say – I stand by the fact that potatoes were only meant to be baked or mashed and never fried, sautéed, or otherwise cooked in greasy pans / fryers. I went to a Waffle House once – I enjoyed leaving it…alive. Forever scarred but alive…

If you don’t eat fried potatoes what do you have with your hamburger?

I can only assume that he’s an onion rings dude.
