On paper we are way more talented than them.
coogs gonna go off
Based on what paper ?
Team Talent Composite
. Same rating system we celebrate when we get a 5 star QB commitment.
I will have to scratch that publication.
Iām not sure how you come to this conclusion. Thereās no doubt UH has taken a big jump in recruiting in the Big 12 and has geographic advantages. I will also grant you that ISU is difficult place to recruit to and is certainly a classic retain and develop program. BUT recruiting rankings per 247 donāt really indicate UH would have more talent this year. Please explain:
2020: ISU 46, UH 71
2021: ISU 59, UH 85
2022: ISU 39, UH 55
2023: ISU 42, UH 51
2024: ISU 53, UH 60
EDIT: I saw your post about team talent composite. Interesting. I am somewhat aware UH feels good about its transfers. ISU has a very light touch in the transfer portal, in both directions. Its just something CMC isnāt a big fan of. Genuinely curious to hear more on your side about who you have brought in you think makes UH more talented on paper.
Sounds like a good way to get a coach fired lol.
Give that nearly every pre-season pub had UH picked at or near the bottom of the Big 12, any claim that we are as talented or more talented than the rest of the Big 12 is a huge stretch.
Several of our most talented players left in the transfer portal.
Iām going off the talent composite rankings. I mean as a whole, Iowa State may be more talented if our 9 four stars are skewing the average. However I donāt think 9 players can affect a score in that way. What are there 85 on the roster(9/85)? I honestly donāt know the math they use.
I think itās total points which is also flawed. Nonethless, UH isnāt completely devoid of the necessary talent to compete on the Big 12. No disrespect( Iowa State hasnāt won any recent recruiting championships lately). I feel like this the best guage of talent out. Especially if people canāt come forth with their own metric to supercede the aggregate.
Lol i donāt care about beat writer rankings. Bout as useful as Dave Campbells. They donāt do evaluations. They predict with a keyboard. Thatās why theyāre wrong all the time. Theyāre journalists, not analysts.
Parker on locked on coogs said The QBs had more time to throw vs cincy then they did all year. Based on the ātime to throw statā. I said the OL looked much we improved. They were blocking well. QBs and play calling has got to be better
If our defense plays a great game and wins the turnover battle, then we might can win in OT of a scoreless game.
Thank you for your reply. Just curious. There is some grey area and room for debate on the definition of talent in this regard.
No, Iowa State isnāt going to win any recruiting beauty contests. Nor are really any of the other programs remaining in the Big 12 or of the recent additions.
Iowa State, and big 12 teams in general, are realistically just trying to get in the ballpark and have a punchers chance to find some over acheivers, find an identity and recruit to it, and then blend grow and develop together.
Youāve seen this is OSU, KSU, TCU, BU, and even ISU in the past. This is where the depth and parity you see comes from. Itās a conference generally dominated by teams that are old/experienced, well coached, and have continuity and identity outside OU and UT, and I expect that trend to continue with them gone.
It really depends on if you want to bet on a talented collection of Transfers or underclassmen still adjusting to their new team/role/system on the fly alongside an influx of a rotating cast of characters in the same boat on a contiunal basis. Are they in a position to whoop or get whooped by a firmly established battle-hardened, developed, and comfortable overachievers alongside others in the same boat over an extended stable period of time?
For example, I know ISUās top two QBs were lightly recruited three star QBs that have each leapfrogged the 4 star elite 11 QB that turned down bigger programs. We were all excited for him to be the QB of the future, but it doesnāt look like it will pan out and thatās fine and nothing new.
Brock Purdy and Breece Hall were both modestly recruited 3 stars. Each leap-frogged higher recruited players in their time at ISU. Breece Hall had a 4 star in his own class that was never ahead of him on the depth chart in their time at ISU together. That better RB never transferred. Neither has the 4 star QB who is now our 3rd string QB.
ISU has a culture and identity. I actually expect Willy Fritz to bring a similar culture to UH. I think it was a smart hire and over time I think it will pay off. But I think it will be using a similar blueprint, not necessarily going to win any beauty contests. ISU is the more talented team here. Just my two cents, and I appreciate you actually replying.
My thoughts exactly. Good post.
Cyclone here, You guys remind me of Matt Campbellās first year so much. Couple nasty losses, but we saw gradual improvement through the season. I think you guys will see the same result. Fritz is a good coach, and Holgorson left you in a hole (good assistant, but terrible HC, IMHO).
That said, Iād bet on an ISU win tomorrow. I donāt think the staff will let them sleepwalk into this game. Fully expect Houston to come out swinging, but I donāt think you guys have the guns to take us down. Iād expect a clock control game. ISU will get the lead and sit on it. Iām glad we got you guys early.
You guys are on the right path, and have plenty in your favor to be a powerhouse in the conference. Donāt be like Tech and inexplicably muff it up year after year. I wasnāt sure about you guys when it was announced you were joining, but after a year I will eat my crow. You guys are my favorite of the first 4 adds. Hereās to competing for basketball championships for now, and hopefully football championships in the future.
Thanks for the complements!
I have to say the reverse, I knew absolutely nothing about Iowa State before last year but theyāve become one of my favorite Big 12 members.
They werenāt an old SWC foe and we had never had played them in Football and obviously, I wasnāt watching Big 12 football before last year but after the basketball season, I really grew to like ISU and I hope we keep that basketball rivalry going!
We WILL be a force in football eventually if we can get our of our own wayā¦so I guess we are like Techā¦lol
