Case Keenum for Head Coach

I’ve been wondering what would make me change my mind on supporting the team under Holgerson. We’re stuck, we can’t afford to pay him out and we don’t dare keep him, as we will continue to hemorrhage quality fans and season-ticket holders. We need a new direction and fast.

Over the years, I’ve always pulled for Case Keenum teams even when he or his team was bad. I can not help but pulling for this guy. So, even without head coach experience, I’m saying let’s hire a high character guy to grow into the position. It’s someone, as fans, we can all get behind without question. And if we feel that way, I suspect the players will too.

We actually can afford to pay Holgerson after this season. It was only prior to this one that we had to pay his buyout as a lump sum, after this season we can stretch it out until 2027.

As far as Keenum, not just no but hell no. He needs experience actually coaching before we even consider him. And the last thing we need is for him to fail here and ruin his reputation with new fans.

I love Keenum as much as the next guy but he is not the right person for our head coaching position.

I hate to say it, but outside the UH faithful, Keenum doesn’t really resonate with many folks. How he could / would handle recruiting would be up in the air - do high school recruits / portal players know who he is and want to come play for him? He was an undrafted free agent (although has made a hell of an NFL career for himself).

Im all for having him involved in some capacity once his NFL days are over, but not a head coach.

Please no. Fans would turn on him after his first bad season, then boo him when they bring back the 2011 team to wave to the fans.

He needs coaching experience first how to run a program, ncaa rules etc

I wouldn’t want that for Case not because I’m not willing to give him a chance but because a lot of fans would turn on him if he has a bad season.

No. I like Case as much as the next Coog, but we need someone with coaching/recruiting experience and not a Clyde 2.0 scenario.

Case for OC under an experienced coach first!

I’d be ok with Keenum being the QB coach.

With everything I’ve read about Case I could see him coaching at UH one day.

I think he would view it as giving back to his program and making an impact on some young men’s lives.

Case is going to be a fantastic coach one day. He probably will want to have 2 or so years as a OC/QB coach before he takes a HC gig.

Think 6-8 years coaching
Qb-oc-then head coach
Multiple stops first
He is going to be a coach at some level it’s in his blood

I have no doubt Case will be the HC @ UH someday in the future

He comes from a good pedigree and has a great football mind, but my guess is that he will end up as an assistant in the NFL.

I’d be fine with that too. But a head coaching gig at a major college football program as your first job seems like a lot to ask. That’s like telling an entry level lawyer to handle a major corporations merger.

I don’t think Keenum is ready for a HC gig

He needs to work his way up the ranks, and I honestly see him getting an NFL coaching gig before CFB just because of his tenure

More than likely he will coach at the NFL level. Most NFL players if they coach don’t drop down to college. He is basically the Texans qb coach now.

I believe he will coach high school. I think that is where his heart is working with young people.

He’s beloved at UH.

If he fails as HC, then fans turn against him.

No one here would want that to happen.

Upon retirement, perhaps approach him as a offense consultant.

He knows how to attack D alignments. He knows offense and the QB position.

An off season consultant would be ideal.

This.

Aint he still in the NFL with the Texans. Still has one more year on his contract and then retire.

He definitely needs like 3 years of coaching before we can talk future coach for UH.

Maybe when Will Stein leaves for the NFL :woozy_face::woozy_face:
