CFP Format Discussion

If it was for espn and uta the BIG12 would dead already. Against all odds Bowlesby save it.
You can’t assume UNC to the big10 or sec just because we hear rumors. TNT is back in college football. Would TNT want to pay mega bucks to have UNC fight it out with UH, Kansas, Arizona and Baylor all basketball blue bloods? You would think it would make the BIG12 highly marketable. Remember it is about money.
TNT’s comeback is massive for us.

@uhlaw97 , try and see my perspective here. Just for this scenario and let me know your thoughts.

I agree, B1G won’t have interest due to academics, HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean FOX doesn’t have interest.

If ESPN (wants to keep inventory), FOX (wants in on inventory), and TNT (seeking new revenue sources) - you don’t think they will cough up whatever is necessary to get FSU/Clemson into the Big 12?

I get your take from the SEC’s perspective, but FSU/Clemson would have easier paths to the CFP in the Big 12

It would be a DREAM scenario for the Big 12, of course. I would absolutely REJOICE if it happened because it would establish the Big 12 as a clear “P3,” and would make the ACC basically a media afterthought and distant fourth.

But I can’t imagine that those two schools filed lawsuits and spent the legal fees that they did UNLESS they were looking to get a P2 invite as a reward for their efforts.

It would take a major elevation in money from the networks to the Big 12 to make that happen and I’m not even sure the networks are willing to do that.

For the same money these four schools best choice is to go to the BIG12.
Print it.

They filed lawsuits because they had to.

UNC doesn’t have to file lawsuits. They could wait it out and let FSU/Clemson do all the leg work?

Why?

Because UNC knows they’re the actual Crown Jewels

I don’t disagree. I think UNC has one advantage: they would be appealing to EITHER the SEC (due to their regionality and brand size), OR the B1G (because of their AAU status and brand size).

FSU and Clemson have fewer options. I do believe that the P2 was their goal, so I’m not sure how enthused they would be about not going to the SEC, and going to the Big 12 instead, but hey…WE CAN ALWAYS DREAM!!!

Again, Yormark would be an absolute GENIUS if he can bring that about.

That’s their goal, but goals aren’t always reached. Compromises happen.

Personally, I don’t think they expected anything other than settlement.

The argument that they wouldn’t file lawsuits just to go to the Big 12 is the same as asking why they would file lawsuits without have invites already in hand

I think that the settlement gives them a way out that they can afford with effort.

That said, I can’t imagine they’d want to get out EXCEPT to go to the P2.

But if somehow we could orchestrate a move to the Big 12 that they’d be happy with, it’d be awesome!

I agree.

You’re not wrong.

But Yormark man… he sly.

That TNT deal. I think it holds more significance than people think. It’s going to come in handy come 2030.

TNT is broadcasting games that were initially on ESPN+…

He knows something we don’t.

Here you go again making assumptions.

Well, maybe so, but I’d say that it’s a pretty valid assumption to say that they are trying to move to a conference where they can get significantly MORE money.

I think we can all agree that that’s a valid assumption.

They can if they move to the P2, so that’s clearly their goal.

It’s not clear that they can if they move to the Big 12, but perhaps Yormark knows something that we don’t.

Again…it’d be a DREAM scenario if it occurred.

What makes you think Yormark can’t deliver a similar deal? Your assumption is as good as any others. TNT wants to bring the bank to the BIG12? FSU, Clemson, UNC, Miami/GT jump to the BIG12 in a heart beat. For the same or similar money than the big10 or sec the BIG12 is much more attractive to them.

I don’t necessarily think that he CAN’T, categorically.

But unlike you, I’m not going to presume that he can, given just how large the money gap currently is. TNT, Fox, etc. would have to come up with A LOT more money to make a move to the Big 12 a significantly financially advantageous one.

Won’t say for sure that it can’t or won’t happen; it’d be a dream scenario if it did happen, but it would take a pay raise for the Big 12 that would seem improbable.

It is all on TNT.
TNT lost the NBA rights.
TNT lost college football rights years ago.
TNT is now in business with the BIG12.
TNT biggest sports rivals are:
espn
fox
cbs
Why would TNT be satisfied to let their competition have all the “cookies”?
How did TNT feel about losing the NBA to its rival espn?
I wrote it earlier. TNT is an opportinuty that the BIG12 can’t pass up.
TNT wants to save college football?
This is their opportunity.

Why did TNT “lose” the rights to any and all of that?

Was it a lottery? Was it stolen? Did they put it somewhere they couldn’t find it?

They got outbid, meaning they don’t have the same money to throw around the other networks do.

ESPN is still dictating a lot of what will happen. If they prove reluctant to continue ACC contract, then that will force some ACC schools to try and move to a conference that has a solid deal in place. That could be the Big 12 in 5 years, we’ll see.

They did not see the value; therefore they did not spend the money.
IMO losing the NBA is paramount to our future.
A huge question for me is why is TNT back in college football?
That in itself deserves a true journalist trying to find out.

Monte, the BIG12 examples is best.
What did espn tried to do?
Kill the BIG12 so they had one less “mouth to feed”
I wrote it before uta left the BIG12 because espn told them they were killing the BIG12.
FSU, Clemson, UNC, Miami/GT moving to a p2 does the following.
espn pays the acc and BIG12 G5 money?
Why?
Because they have achieved the p2 model that they have wanted for years now.
Currently espn barely gives a sniff about the BIG12.

Sounds like ND is going against the grain

This is another message to the big10, espn, fox and cbs. ND by being independent is a major plus to college football and is clearly against the p2 format.
