Link?
All that link says is that there are two different opinions on the matter which isn’t really binding, consequential or meaningful in any way.
Then you missed the point. The point is that the P2 (B1G and SEC) feel that THEY hold final sway over the playoff format, not the P4.
Yeah, I don’t see that happening
Why should any conference trust the Sec?
Thank you.
BIG isnt likely to back off from wanting 4-4-2-2 so i think SEC will eventually say Yeah, OK us too. Then Big 12 and ACC need to both agree to get those 2 auto bids with a chance for 3. 4-4-2-2 is the best deal for our league.
If P2 can’t agree, maybe they agree to a 33221 + 5 at Large?
You seriously think the SEC is going to want to add another in-conference game to their schedule, just to appease Big Ten?
SEC plays 8 games. Big Ten wants them to play 9.
If you add another game, then you’re forced to play a Bama, Ole Miss, Texas, LSU, etc… which will in turn DECREASE their chances of more representation in the CFP.
The problem between the SEC and Big Ten is that the SEC has more top heavy teams, and the Big Ten has more parasites
Which is why (DING DING DING) it would make more sense to expand with UNC & UVA who don’t threaten the power hierarchy in the SEC
DAMNIT CAN WE JUST END THIS CFB MADNESS AND BE DONE WITH IT
No team in the big 12 has won a football natty in the last 40plus years.
No way the big 12 is P2B.
I was more so explaining from his angle
Power 2 - SEC/B1G
Power uhh… 4 - includes Big 12/ACC
Everyone else and the PAC12
We may very well be in the big 12. But in this new landscape and the lack of respect nationally for the big 12 in football, we might as well be G5. There is no respect for the big 12. And until somebody starts winning natties. There won’t be any respect.
The BIG can do what they want. They sure as hell cant tell the SEC how to decide which 4 teams go. The SEC can set it up how they want. The SEC can set up how many conference games they choose to play, thats up to them, too. NO ONE is going to dictate to the best conference in America what to do. Theyll decide for themselves.
Careful
The perception you may think the P2 has of the Big 12 is the the perception that the Big 12 has of the G5 (see Memphis’ rejection)
Regardless, I don’t think it’s the P2 doesn’t respect the Big 12. It’s more so that they don’t want to lose their power or resources.
Capitalism, essentially
I agree in theory, but that’s why they both can’t agree to a CFP system
What if we could just become top heavy:
SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee takes shot at the SEC in defense of strength of ACC:
“The SEC has had the same six schools win the championship since 1964. Not a single one has been different since 1964. That’s top-heavy to me. That’s not depth.”
So give the B1G and SEC twice as many CFP slots, writing down they are twice as good, give them even more money to increase the gap, even better recruiting advantage as the 4422 is a recruiting advantage, better media at the end of the year with each having 6 teams going for 4 slots while Big 12 only gets 3 or so teams fighting for two slots in the media coverage.
Then after years of a written advantage in media, recruiting, and money (even more than now) go back and see if the Big 12 closed the gap. Sounds good. By that I mean it is a stupid idea for them to agree to.
PS. I ran the numbers and posted where of the past 5 years or so the current Big 12 teams would have had 3 or more teams (5 in 2022) more often than only 1 team. Only the 4422 supporters say it does not count because those years do not fit their agenda.
Also now that the Big 12 is no longer a round robin, it is possible to get more top teams since they do not all play each other.
Just need to minimize the gap to make it easy to win on a closer to level field.
Well. Using that logic is ACC is ahead of the big 12.
Being in the 4th best conference, one that has not produced a national champion in 40 plus years shouldn’t make anyone feel secure.
