Past performance is not indicative of future results.
LOL
Some of those teams were either Independent or largely in different conferences. The last 2 years and really the last year best fits the current predicament the Big 12 is in and early returns are dismal. We would have had 1 current Big 12 team in a 5+11 if it was used in the last two years. Was THAT in your data set. I’ll eat crow if we pop and have 3 or 4 top 16 teams this year but I find unlikely. If we get a magical year and have 4 then we have 6 over 3 years for a 2 average which we would have been guaranteed in 442213. 2 is a good deal for us.
It will be unlikely considered the AP ranks SEC / B1G teams with heavy bias for pre season polls
Yormark is going all in on ‘competing on a level playing field in 5+11’. He is stating he believes we will earn our respect in 5+11. Why would he believe any different in terms of on field conference performance in a 442213 with a periodic review of bid allocation? Accordingly, he should be certain in his mind we will either hold at 2 or get more bids (especially if he can frame the performance metrics for our future gain which I am stating should be the MAIN mandate he is highly focused on regarding all this playoff expansion stuff). If Yormark gets caught flat footed in a 442213 then BIG/SEC will either not build in flexibility to adjust based on conference performance and we will be stuck at 4 vs 2 or they will build bid allocation adjustments in such a way that they are advantaged in the future. I don’t see SEC going to 9 conference games. I don’t see BIG accepting 5+11. If anything is agreed it will be some kind of auto bid format. Yormark better not get caught flat footed.
I’m saying take the 2 bids because we will almost certainly not exceed 2 in 5+11 and may not even get 2 bids as evidenced by the last 2 years. Bird in the hand vs 2 in the bush thing. Take the 2 for now and angle for more later if we earn it. Also more to monetize with 1v4 and 2v3 play-in games vs just one Big 12 championship game.
You apparently did not follow my post. I gave exact answers as to why the 5-11 is different from the 4422. You simply choose to ignore it.
Just because you think the Big 12 sucks as a conference does not mean your opinion is correct.
I think three is a perfectly reasonable expectation this year for the top 16.
I don’t which way they do it. But what I would like is no polls till week 7 or later. That would even it up. All these preseason and early season polls are just a setup for an illusion.

Ex , we only have 1 in the top 16
So it’s why I’d rather bird in hand with 2 auto bids.
It gives us good exposure in the playoffs and maybe in a great yr , we get 3 maybe
So I agree with the post by Wassooner , take the bird in hand and if BY is smart demand a look in clause if we continue to have good teams left out
BY would be golden and I think it could be done.
I understand the 5/11 makes us all look equal but the reality is the big and sec even in the public’s eye is better and they do deserve more than us in auto bids bc if we still had OU and UT in our conference, most times those 2 would grab 2 spots and the rest would fight for a 3rd spot. In the big10 , it’s the same, they added heavy weights from the old pac12 that would grab 2 pac spots and moved them to the big10 justifying needing 4 spots.
Summary
Take the 2 auto bids and fight for that look in clause
It is in Yormark’s “mind” about wins and losses. He believes and rightfully so that a big10 or sec team with two losses should not be above a one loss BIG12 team.
Pre season rankings can be manipulated every which way possible. ASU is a prime example when they were picked to finish last. They still ended up in the cfp.
Again, Yormark agreed to give control to the cfp to the big10 and sec under specific guidelines. If these guidelines are not met expect firework. That is why both the big10 and sec are trying to force their way NOW.
One more time, the sec and big10 can’t stack up the cfp under this agreement. espn wants you to believe that. Hence this constant propaganda.
What irks me about this whole cfp expansion is it will create too many rematches. I am just old school about this. There shouldn’t be any rematches in college football. With the new system, the same two teams can conceivably play each other THREE times. I don’t think that’s good for the players or for college football in general.
No BIG 12 FB national champs in 40 years? NOT TRUE…Big 12 champ Oklahoma won NC in 2000. Thats 25 years, not 40.
no CURRENT Big 12 teams have won a national championship in 40 years. OU and UT are irrelevant to the Big 12 now.
UH will change that history.
The problem is the SEC and Big Ten want 4422 for different reasons.
Big Ten wants the SEC to bump up to a 9-game conference schedule. The problem with that is it actually hurts the SEC, so the SEC is better off with 5-11 + 8 game conference schedule.
The Big Ten moved to 9 games because there what… 4 or 5 teams that really have consistent success? Everyone else seems like an easy win, which is why they did this (of course, pre-CFP)
The SEC on the other hand, is a gauntlet of about 7-8 teams (Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, LSU, Texas A&M, Florida).
If the SEC were to go to 9 games, that means that more top teams have to player other top teams, resulting in less CFP bids.
If I had to guess… we stay with the 12-team CFP for the rest of the decade.
Just look at Oklahoma’s schedule.
Michigan
Auburn
Texas
Ole Miss
Tennessee
Alabama
LSU
That’s insane. That’s a CFP within itself. And it’s exactly why the SEC doesn’t want 9 games, because that would mean a team like A&M or Georgia would have to be the additional team.
Now that i think about it, Mack Brown’s Texas team won an NC in 2005. When Texas and OU were members, its ridiculous to say the championships they won dont count. Worrying about NCs is a foolish argument anyway. The Big 12 was a great conference back then, and they are a great conference now.
So PAC 12 gets to count all those great USC teams from Pete Carroll too then in terms of how we should look at their current conference? Come on?! Seriously?! LOLOLOL
We have plenty of good teams in 2025, yes, but your argument about old teams mattering to the current state of the conference defies logic and is just silliness.
The SEC does not have a gauntlet. That is an ESPN and SEC manufactured myth. They are 100% top heavy.
You serious?
Just look at Georgia’s schedule from last year. They weren’t blowing out every single team. They barely escaped Georgia Tech.
Again, it’s not just the SEC teams. It’s the marquee non-conference game that’s also included. If the SEC goes to 9 games, do they just no longer schedule marquee games?
