Say what?
Without the CFP, SMU’s first nine years in the ACC may generate annually roughly half of what it earned in distribution while in the American Athletic Conference (about $9 million).
Looks like Sankey wants to drop the hammer in expanding the pie just the opposite of what the power conference want. UH, BYU, UCF and Cincy got in just under the wire so this means the ACC and PAC 2 can expand all they want with G5’s they want, but no increase in PO revenue This has got to be unwelcome news for those 2 conferences
Got Donked!
Suck it SMOO!!!
Couldn’t happen to a better group, eh?
So far, it’s looking like such an incredibly poor financial business decision. I’m mean even if you have money to just throw at your alma mater, it’s so illogical.
Donks gonna Donk
I mean people on the board wanted UT to lose because CFP money is “really not that much”
Thats Polish for ruck smu
I can’t see how folks let certain guys become defacto dictators - alot of g5 ADs are scared to challenge or say something to them as a whole for fear of not advancing
That’s borderline insane / if they can afford it let them in
Since SMU is so rich and want to be P4 so bad, rest of the Power Conference should strike a deal an tell SMU pay each school outside the ACC $2M a piece each school every year if you want in. Now let’s see how much they want to be P4?
“This is just for the next couple of years.”
Thats a pretty good schedule SMU has lined up for next year, but i dont know how good attendance will be because Dallas just doesnt go to SMU games anymore…i guess we’ll see.
If you are a CASUAL non-affiliated College Football fan in the Metroplex, which home schedule excites you more?
Team A
vs. Houston Christian
vs. TCU
vs Boston College
vs. CAL
vs. Florida State
vs. PITT
vs. BYU
Team B
vs Arizona
vs Texas Tech
vs Houston
vs Oklahoma State
vs UCF
B
More Texas P5 schools that local Texas football fans care about.
Same for UH fans as illustrated by this year’s UH attendance numbers.
Team A
I like how you included the HCU game on the A list and not the bottom team on the B list - isn’t that a little misinformation and bias?
Also keep in mind in the last 30 years the DFW population went from 3.8 to 8 million. Mostly through people moving there from the east and west coasts, not just native Texans. Someone from the east coast will most likely choose what they recognize over what they don’t - ie Pitt and BC over Ok St and Tech/Houston.
We lived in Plano for almost 20 years. Am very familiar with what is SMU’s actual problem. Why they suffer at the gate. What drove them out of playing at Texas stadium.
And, yes, the death penalty had its impact.
But the real death comes from being in same Metro with an entity that everyone either loves or hates.
The Dallas Cowboys.
Once July training camp opens they dominate the airwaves and all Dallas media. SMU does not exist. On the 10 pm TV News The Cowboys get coverage during the regular broadcast, then they get their own 30 minute show at 10:30. SMU disappears from coverage. And from any real fan interest.
Playing an ACC schedule will not fix this problem for SMU. They just finished in The Top 25. The Bowl Game in their Stadium, Tx State vs Rice, sold more tickets than any SMU home game.
Fla. State is a solid opponent. Doubt they sell more tickets than will the TCU game. After that, straight downhill.
Team A is SMU’s home schedule.
Team B is TCU’s home schedule
