They beat Rice last season, we didn’t.
Again…wake me up when they beat a P5, much less a 9 win one.
We did.
As I said, it could be a ROUGH season for them.
Of course they’ll beat HCU.
After that…they’ll be lucky to qualify for a bowl based upon their results against 5-7 TCU and 6-6 Boston College this year.
They’d gladly take their chances with that ACC schedule (football + basketball) over a boring AAC schedule full of nobodies.
I got it.
Still a lemon though.
Conference may not even hold together.
And in any event…they will NOT “surpass” us. Even with a whole season to recruit, their best season in about four decades, and coaching stability…they still couldn’t outrecruit us.
Speaks VOLUMES.
The CFP board wants the commissioners to re-examine the SMU issue. In other words, the board doesn’t want to look like the bad guys.
I will be surprised if Sankey gives in to SMU.

Pity.
I was hoping they’d drop an anvil on SMU’s butt.
The Stanford game might have less fans than when they play Rice.
Anyway, for PAC-o-philes like you, Wilner apparently has a theory as to how the PAC may reconstitute…of course…it is dependent upon Florida State being successful in its suit.
Listen:
I don;t think the PAC is returning…lol.
Maybe as a mid tier conference if they grab some MWC schools or for a Big 12 school if they need a waiting room before moving on a P2.
the PAC is D-E-A-D.
They had their shot to kill the big 12 and passed…dumb move.
SMU has Cal at home next year. They will surely bring more fans than Rice. The draw is FSU, TCU and BYU at home next year. BC and Pitt have some appeal as well. BC due to bowl revenge and Pitt from 1982 Cotton Bowl. Season could sell out but they only have 34k permanent seating with new EZ complex.
Let the record reflect that FSU is the ONLY ACC team that will draw a crowd.
You said it.
I agree!!!
NO significant increase in ticket sales for other ACC opponents.
No more than ONE money making ACC brand per year at home for SMU annually.
I’ve been saying that ALL ALONG.
True but they also have two Big 12 teams at home, including their rival. Season tickets may sell out.
Our biggest home game is Baylor. Then KSU, Utah and ISU all draw rather well…better than Pitt, BC and Cal for sure.
Again, NOT ACC teams…Big 12 teams.
At the most, SMU will get ONE ACC blue blood at home per year; the other ACC teams won’t draw squat.
I’m pretty sure Notre Dame @ SMU would do well…same with Clemson.
Same with Duke or North Carolina, in Basketball.
the fact is the ACC has MORE big brands than the Big 12.
A school like Iowa State is NOT selling out TDECU
If I’m outside counsel with a retainer from SMU, I am licking my chops at the prospect of litigation. All I see is billable hours and dollar signs ahead.
same with the FSU lawyers…they been finding this “needle in the haystack” for years now!
FSU, ND, and Clemson, sure.
For football…THAT’S IT. And as I said, they’ll only get maybe one of those teams per year at home.
Other than that…ACC teams won’t draw jack squat playing SMU.
As for basketball…that doesn’t drive the train. We’ll draw better at home for basketball regardless of which teams we play than SMU ever will.
And again…FSU and Clemson may not be around for long. At that point, they’ll be hosting only uninteresting conference football opponents at home; rarely will they get to host ND.
SMU will continue to struggle to fill that 32K seat stadium for anyone other than the one ACC big brand per year at the most.
By contrast, based on this past season, a crowd of over 30K is all but assured for every Big 12 game except in a really bad season, which we aren’t likely to have under Fritz.
