Chinese astronauts stranded in space

Yikes!

Too much debris up there and it’s only going to get worse unless we get smart about it.

Space debris you say? Just watch Gravity, that’ll teach all you need to know about space debris.

I’m no expert, but I did help put together and edit this little piece a few weeks back on this very topic.

The robots will need to do this, and yes, space debris will hinder space travel. There is a ton of junk orbiting.

So it’s just like the terrestrial situation. :alien:

If there’s one thing humans are good at, it’s dumping their trash/junk everywhere and leaving it for someone or something else to deal with it.

Nice work!

I was looking at the NASA website on this and the numbers are mind numbing.
Not to hard to see future lunar or mars missions not being impacted by this debris.

And an AI take on probabilities …

The probability of a space mission being damaged by debris varies, but the risk from large debris is still considered low. While small particles hit satellites frequently with little effect, the chance of a catastrophic collision is around

0.1%

per satellite per year. However, this risk is increasing as the number of objects in orbit grows, which has led to frequent near-misses for the International Space Station and the need for active tracking and avoidance maneuvers.

Debris traveling at 17,000 mph.

What the universe needs is a good space junk collection service. It could be a real growth industry. And I remember just 50 years ago the talk was all about the immense vastness of space.

It’s Temu

Did somebody say space debris? We saw plenty of Starlink satellites being deployed last time we were in Big Bend…

Don’t worry… I’m sure he’s working on how to get government funding for his space junk cleaning service where he deposits it into the oceans of Earth…
