Is Chris Harris coming over next year for sure? If not, our center situation is really poor. Valentine is not a starting caliber center at all; he’s a big body at 6-9, 250 lbs, but he’s not athletic and isn’t well-conditioned. In warm-ups, he doesn’t even dunk the ball. Which leaves us with Breaon Brady as our starting center with one of our PFs (White or Davis) to back him up and that’s going to leave us with some major rebounding issues. Why doesn’t CKS seem to offer scholarships to any centers? It just seems so counter-intuitive given the lack of depth at that position for this squad.
I keep saying this. Brady has back to skills scoring ability but he needs a defensive minded rebounder like Chris Harris to back him up. Worse thing CKS could do is have Fabian White play center at 6-7/6-8. He needs to construct the roster better.
I thought Valentine is injured and redshirting tjis season. But allegedly we should get Harris next season. Third time is a charm…
Sometimes I wonder why some critical UH fans don’t just send CKS a list of the 40 to 50 available 6’ 10"+ college basketball center prospects who (a) have Hakeem Olajuwon like skills and (b) are interested in a scholarship offer from UH.
I just want someone better than Kyle Meyer. I’ll settled for a 6’9 250 pd center who can give UH 12 ppg and 8 rbs. I think we found that with Brady, but the center position could used some depth if big Valentine is a big question mark.
As far as Chris Harris is concern, is that he is listed as a freshman. Don’t know much about his situation, but I think he is another Davell Lauder.
@uhmump95 I’m not rly expecting that; it’s obvious we aren’t going to get a guy like Deandre Ayton on our roster. But the fact that CKS barely recruits anyone over 6-8 is troubling. Our team isn’t built like SMU where every guy on the floor has the potential to average 4-5 rebs a game. We need a big man in the middle swallowing boards and he’s not even trying to get a 3 star at that position. It just doesn’t make too much sense to me.
C’mon now, what makes anyone think that CKS isn’t trying to recruit better at the center position?
Hopefully a fully renovated and consistently sold out Fertitta Center will afford us better recruiting prospects in this regard.
CKS is trying to recruit good centers (Jarrett Allen, Chris Harris). They don’t want to come yet. They haven’t wanted to come for a long time.
Centers that average 12 and 8 in college are hard to find and usually end up at the top programs.
Valentine is still recovering from an injury and isn’t in playing shape right now; why he is red shirting. The hope is we bring in Harris though; we’ll see.
It’s sad they don’t want to come. Until then, UH has to do with the hand they’re dealt with. Sucks, but its the truth.
