Not my point at all. I agree with you on Whitting and no about Sampson but it seems as if he is downgrading the perception of our school by saying, the resources here are terrible. You could have been elsewhere already.
If you find something circumspect in a question like “Have you ever thought of leaving” then you’re just paranoid. Asking CTW about the challenges his program is facing in a new conference and paradigm of college athletics and how he plans to get back to the top is fair game. Most viewers who are looking for thoughtful honest discussion appreciate that. Others who just want propaganda and sunshine pumping will always see conspiracy I guess. No one is going to be convinced they should have a negative view of the university simply because a coach was asked about their reasons for staying at UH and declining opportunities to go elsewhere.
I’m not sure what the fuss is about with Kunkel asking Sampson if he ever thought of leaving. It is a fair question by a reporter. The backdrop is that it is well known the program was in the dumpster when Sampson took the job. Facilities were out-dated, the talent level was not competitive, and the administration had neglected the program for years. Sampson had to build the program from scratch. Given the challenges to overcome, some coaches would burned out, given up, or moved on during the process. Not Coach Sampson.
He’s not asking that from his early days in the program, he’s asking it from his success in the program. “You’ve done well here but this place sucks compared to other places” why haven’t you gone to a better program by now?” It’s a point that is not needed to be made. Would he ask Sampson that if he was at Texas? No.
National media types have been asking Sampson for a couple of years now if he’s leaving.
It just shows how strong the anti Houston bias is with the national media
