College football’s Jerry Jones? Texas Tech booster Cody Campbell demands return on investment
The article basically said everyone is doing it and it isn’t going to stop. Have to read to the end and wade past the endless advertising
Buying influence is bad enough.
Buying wins is a horse of a totally different universe.

If Cody Campbell keeps acting like a petulant rich kid, making posts on social media, the Board of Regents (BOR) will instruct him to tone it down, and if that does not work, threaten to impeach him. If I was as Texas Tech BOR Member, I would hate having to respond to questions about the posts from my Board Chair.
My question is does the BOR have the guts and integrity to take those types of actions.
No. Tech isn’t a school known for serious stuff. They are a novelty public institution built around a sports brand. He’ll say whatever stupidities he wants.
Maybe he’ll file a lawsuit against the conference suing to be given a minimum 9 conference wins a year.
Not if it dries up a revenue stream
He’s the chairman of their BOR. The rest of the BOR probably kiss his ring (and other things) and do what he says.
They literally chose him to be the chairman, and none of this is new. He used to be a regular and obnoxious message board poster on their Rivals site back in the day. He’s basically a superfan with a fat bank account. Nobody is calling him on anything.
My question is people say that Joey McGuire is “a great coach” what exactly makes him “great”?
I’ve always thought he was mediocre
He won 3 state championships at Cedar Hill.
Maybe his having financial problems? Over spent his allowance. ![]()

There is a scene on the movie Vegas Vacation where Clark Griswold and Cousin Eddie go to an off the wall casino, and Clark plays “Pick a number between 1-10” against a dealer…on the honor system…and loses.
That is a smarter investment than pouring millions into college athlete salaries.

College atheles have agents these days for a reason. Most quality players care more about who will pay more over loyality.
And, Al Bundy was a great running back at Polk High School…
he was blessed with great talent also - that was the height of the migration of Dallas ISD to the southern burbs - you notice the Texas coaches that turn high school gigs into college position coach gigs tend to come from successful programs where there’s talent and numbers
Problem with Cody is let’s say he’s giving 20 to 25 mil a yr. It’s like a big tax even though he’s rich and he’s not getting hardly the return on investment bc UH, byu , Utah , ok state are equal or above for way less the money. He probably thought he could simply pay a lot and win a natty or conference each yr. Again like I posted, there’s a lot of parity in college football where almost any p4 can beat another p4 any given Saturday.
He’s putting money in, but what he’s been good at is getting the other rich guys to get behind him and continue supporting the program. They have a whole team of big money donors, and he’s the point man.
We’ll see what happens after Tech has 2 or 3 conference losses. 25 mil to come in 3rd doesnt sound like the return he counted on…
This is why I want Tech to just miss the CCG. I want Campbell doubling his donations next year so Tech can barely miss again. And on and on and on.
