… you get, on the D! I saw a Coach AA availability where while naming important things his defense will have/do. He implied that the D will show one formation to start and then switch into another, after the opposing QB’s headset is turned off. This is going to be fun to watch.
Do any of our fellow Coogs know the rule if our D is moving when the opposition QB snaps the ball ? Penalty ?
I guess the opposing team could go into a hurry-up offense to limit the time our D has to change formations.
What do You all think about this concept ? It would be good for our Offense to practice against it as well.
Go Coogs !
D can move all over, except into neutral zone line of scrimmage. Or
did I miss understand the question ? Or is there some weird new rule I’m unaware
of ? So no penalty.
I think there’s also a rule against trying to bait the offense into a false start, but other than that, yeah, as far as I know, the defense can basically move as desired pre-snap.
That rule is if a defensive player crosses the neutral zone causing the offensive player to move it’s a 5 yard penalty. If the offensive player does not move and the defensive player gets back there is no penalty.
Thanks to all who responded. If there is no penalty for the Defense moving then we can morph until the opposing Offense snaps the ball. We can keep trying for the Defensive mismatches that work. This will be a fun Defense to watch.
Can’t Wait !
Go Coogs !
We were called for a “simulating the snap” penalty against BYU (I think), and my recollection was that it was due to the DL shifting laterally. As I understood the call and explanation from the announcer, refs decided our DL was too aggressive in their lateral shift. I don’t believe it was for yelling or clapping to simulate snap.
I don’t ever recall seeing that call before, anyone else remember it the same way?
