Latrell and Isaiah are the starters. Emery saw that and probably dipped.
In 2023 Emery played in 7 games ( 2 starts) and for the year one pass breakup. Nine tackles on the year 8 of which came against UTSA and TCU ( 4 each gsme). So seems he got beat out a few games into the season and played little the remainder.
He was the starting Nickelback this year. Somebody has to guard the position most Quarterbacks love to throw to. That is the hardest corner position. Latrell starting? Smh… I’m not going to say anything. But I will post what OU and USC fans said about him…stars and charm seems to get you a long look…smh…coaches are hoping potential goes kinetic on the field smh…

I had hoped Emery was starting to develop into a solid DB toward the end of ‘22, specifically when I watched him against East Carolina. But he seemed to go backward. Don’t like to point fingers at individual players, but he was the DB responsible for the long touchdown pass West Virginia scored very late in that game. As joprior says, McCutchin and Hamilton are the starters, and odds are very good that transfers Kriston Davis and Jeremiah Wilson are behind them. I think we’ve offered some cornerbacks in the portal, so obviously Emery wasn’t considered essential to the depth chart.
Tank Dell was most impressed by McCutchin when he watched practice. McCutchin was a freshman at OU and a sophomore at USC. Let’s see how much he has improved.
Now that settles the nerves. We do not need corners who rely on pass rush solely. If Tank approves I accept.
I asked a coach who to watch in the defensive backfield during the spring game. He said “8, 23, 24 & 31”.
So Webb, Haulcy, McCuthchin and Hamilton.
Also Johnsley Barbas #33 was flying around. Add in #21 Gaston, he popped off on screen couple times.

HOUSTON COUGARS (8)

Well, Sam Brown in an interview, said his decision in leaving Houston was because he needed a QB.
QB play.
Considering how many interceptions and ducks Smith threw, I can’t say that he’s wrong.
No big deal but not sure why he had to take a jab at a teammate on his way out the door.
This will be a transition year as we move to being a run first team with receivers who actually have to block.
This program is no longer about me-me-me
The oblique injury likely had a lot to do with the ducks.
Exactly……someone tell him he’s not good enough to be a diva yet.
Brown and Golden were little b1tches. Whining non stop. Best receiver of group was “no-drip” Manjack!
Can’t say I’m surprised. Brown was a productive but temperamental player. Best he move on.
Right on, 97! Our receivers now are going to be tough, high character team first kids who catch AND block…Cant wait to see Mews, Manjack, the monster TE from Mich St and all the rest…
lol He was on track to lead the conference in REC yards. Yet the issue was with QB? I wish him well at his next spot, but talking down on the guy that helped put him on the map is a poor look.
You had a QB, it didn’t workout Sammy BECAUSE OF YOU!
