I have this weird feeling. I was worried about this game against OSU because it definitely felt like a trap game, and I was right. I can’t believe we actually won it at the end.

But this game? It feels like all the pressure is on Tech. We are their trap game. We have been playing to the level of our opponent all season, so it will be close. But we will definitely win.

We seem to have one game each season we should have easily won but barely come away with a victory. I hope that Oregon St. was that game this year and not a sign of things to come

I think they’re further along in the process than we are, and there’s not anything wrong with that. Our guys showed a lot of resilience last night, which isn’t a magic wand to win against steep odds, but should carry forward to the following games.

OSU is 0-4 and bad. Stop.

Y’all played Oregon State at home though. So, different types of games for both teams.

In fairness too, I think it would have been lopsided at TDECU. So comparing our game vs OSU and techs game vs OSU isn’t exactly apples to apples

My fear is their DL vs. the Coog OL. For offensive sharpness home/away makes a huge difference, but line play is much less volatile. We have to score, probably a lot, to win next Saturday and their starting line has given up no TDs in the first half and only one TD total this year to Utah in the 3rd quarter.

WF is a great Xs and Os coach and he no doubt has some familiarity with Tech’s defensive scheme. We have to get the ball out of Conner’s hands fast and get the running game established against that line. I’m sure they’ve got some things they’ve been working on awhile for this game.

I meant tech is farther along in their process

I totally disagree.,What we’re doing at Houston is a process. What Tech did is try to fast-track their success and SKIP the process.

Go back and watch Willie’s recent video discussing good Teams vs good Programs. TT is a classic example of a good “Team”. They are not …. Further along in the process.

Every Head Coach talks about changing the “culture” of their program. It’s been the latest “buzzword” for several years know. The problem is, for most head coaches, is just part of their “coach-speak”. Furthermore, many who change the culture” do that by screwing everything up and end up changing it for the worse.

Ever heard the phrase “I was _____ before ____ was cool”? Well, Willie was changing cultures long before it became the overused phrase it is today…

Ok, I’m with you on being process oriented, and I also prefer what we’re doing to just straight buying a short cut. Morgan Freeman gives a great monologue about sin and short cuts to virtue at the end of Seven.

What I said is shorthand for the observable outward result of the two teams at this point in time. However we each go about it, tech is further ahead for now. I don’t believe in instant karma coming to get them.

This discussion board setting works better if you give people some credit instead of requiring a 2000 word essay with citations to explain every aspect of the things they want to say.

Agreed on all. Thanks for taking the time to explain…

Agreed and it makes me think of the dynamic we had with Memphis basketball back in the AAC. Kelvin Sampson built up the basketball program in a slow but steady way that lent itself to sustained success. When Memphis hired Penny Hardaway though they immediately started gunning after 5 star talent thinking they would turn into Kentucky 2.0 overnight. Fast forward a decade later from when CKS started and he has the basketball team as a perennial contender, meanwhile Penny and Memphis still haven’t taken a significant step forward from where they were when he first took over.

I’ve been a believer in Fritz since his SHSU days.

That said, the whole Tech “mercenary” thing being played against UH “culture” is hilarious, given that Fritz brought in 30 portal guys and McGuire brought in 21.

This is a false argument… or, you just missed my point, because I didn’t make my case very well. I’ll elaborate…

The proof of culture is not in how many you bring in, it’s in how many YOU brought in that actually stay.

Willie inherited a team in need of a complete “rebuild” and he went out and filled needs with guys who are bought in.

That’s way different than buying as many 4 and 5 stars as a wealthy benefactor gives you money for.

The guys that left from last year’s team were not guys Willie brought in.

The measuring stick will show up in each subsequent year when you see the difference in how many of HIS players stay, and graduate, and come back for games after their college playing days are over.

Willie graduated 100% of his players at Tulane for 8 years. His retention rate for HIS recruits is off the charts. That’s “culture”.

As long as they got that big money to spend they will stay ahead of us in any process they can just buy titles

Not really. A&M has had as much money funneled into their football program the last decade plus and what do they have to show for it?
